Is it a good time to invest in gold? My portfolio is pretty much exclusively stocks. I figure I need to diversify, and per my understanding 35% of the U.S. dollars in existence were printed last year it seems to me inflation HAS to come soon. If you agree its a good time to invest in gold, what particular investment(s) would you buy to accomplish same? Gold miners, gold futures, etc. etc. Thanks for any help!!!
This would be investing at least relatively long term, not trading. What about physical gold coins, etc? Thanks!!!
Same question few days ago. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/gold-trading.354908/#post-5301001 I wouldn't buy gold at these levels, like i wouldn't buy any other financial product - at these levels. As Dalio said, 5%~ of your portfolio is more than enough, & if you're buying, then average in. E.G,. Denmark stock market rose up 20% in 2020. There's other markets, that will generate better returns than gold, and in other currencies, if one is afraid of $$$.
look at the day chart. See how messy, how untidy, how ugly, how choppy it is. We Professional traders don't know where gold is heading. But Professional talkers, professional writers & fortune tellers know where gold is heading. Now, look at other index futures chart eg Nikkei. Just see how trendy, now decisive, how tidy, how beautiful it is. Learn to distinguish these 2 types of charts. I'd Avoid trading those charts which are very ugly.
Bridgewater has 20% in gold now. Unsure whether it's their full portfolio but that's what they disclosed.
I think they increase their allocation since 2 quarters ago. You can read the Sec filings. I believe they allocate most of them to their risk parity portfolio. I'm unsure but that's a speculation.
Understood. Yeah. Just to clarify my texts above : as for average retailer, like in this case, my judgement says that the OP isn't aiming at the breakout & simply, buying (based on wishful thinking/news/gossip), based on all of that - there was that previous recommendation of ~5%. (say, up to 10%) It's a different story when one knows bit better, that which he does. For e.g (not to brag or something (bragging in anonymous forum, - word)), ima about to allocate +~30% of my portfolio in a single equity, but one is confident in such move. In the second hand, for someone who is uncertain, moving in with 20%-30%, later on, one day (if it becomes a habit) - might be a painful choice.
