did it cuz the teens triggered him, confirmed: https://www.npr.org/2020/09/20/914983610/federal-judge-blocks-trump-administrations-u-s-wechat-ban Federal Judge Blocks Trump Administration's U.S. WeChat Ban "Certainly the government's overarching national-security interest is significant," Beeler wrote, but the Trump administration "has put in scant evidence that its effective ban of WeChat for all U.S. users addresses those concerns," the judge wrote.
Imagine all the use for facial recognition technology China will have with the petabytes of videos of stupid teens who don't understand privacy. WeChat allows China to track dissidents. China exerts extreme control over WeChat and banning it would be a net good for society at large. It's not hard to imagine the data collection on US citizens they're doing via WeChat. I'm sure those poor Chinese-American expats will be quite surprised when Winnie's goon squad picks them up at the airport for something they said 5 years ago over here in the US of A. Nevermind if they say something scandalous about China to their China-local family and friends. They might get sent to a death camp instead for such transgressions. This is simply a "muh racism" style counterpoint because WeChat is used in the US by Chinese expats to talk to their families. There's no regard for privacy because the pro-China left will do whatever it takes to protect Winnie and his party. You'd have to be stupid to believe this isn't China's goal. But given that 3/4 of congress and our federal judges are old enough to remember the phonograph I'm not surprised these idiots are ruling in a way that signifies a complete lack of understanding of technology and the intelligence implications of TikTok and WeChat.
The executive has no control over this. Separation of powers and all. The courts are packed with people who don't want to kick a hornets nest because China controls absurd amounts of our debt, tons of our real estate, and most of the technology we buy. There is no conclusion here except appeasement. The federal judiciary is afraid of China.
you're right, got bytedance/wechat mixed up since I recall tiktok also filing a lawsuit. Too late to edit titles now.
