I'm contemplating a three 24" widescreen monitor setup and would like to turn them vertically (portrait mode) and operate them as one continuous screen. Has anyone here done this, and if so, do you have a recommended video card(s)? I'm currently running quad 19" monitor setups (non-widescreen), so I don't have any experience with widescreen portrait mode setups and the associated issues. Thanks.
I would run them on nVidia cards for sure. Do not use the integrated video port. Get 2 nVidia GeForce or Quadro cards. The advantage is that you are only running on driver set and you are able to extend the desktop across all three as well as rotating the monitors and having them display properly. When in doubt, go with nVidia. One word of caution, you will need to check to see what type of expansion slots your system has available. You might only have one PCI Express x16 or one AGP slot, so when you buy your cards, you will need to get a PCI (not PCI Express) and the other in AGP or PCIe format. This is a crucial point. Good luck.
2x nvs285 should do it, 4x24" would be better I think, 3x is a little too tall and narrow for my taste.
Running three Eizo 20" 1600x1200 in portrait orientation on NVS440. Two of the NVS 280/285/290 will do you just fine as well. The bundled Nvidia software is great.
Slave2Market, If haven't yet spent the money you might want to check this site out! http://www.tradingcomputers.com/TCarrays.html
There is also software that allows you to rotate any monitor, even if your video card doesn't support that feature. http://www.portrait.com/us/products/pp_overview.html
