Just another story about ai hype and how fake it is......I guess 99.999% will disregard this guy's opinion ...as most will say, this won't age well in the years ahead unless by some oddly circumstance the dude is right.... AI is effectively ‘useless’—and it’s created a ‘fake it till you make it’ bubble that could end in disaster, veteran market watcher warns https://fortune.com/2024/07/08/ai-u...-fake-it-make-it-bubble-market-watcher-warns/
People, including myself are using it. So how is it useless? It's a tool, not the answer to everything.
Most people I talk haven't even used anything related to ai. A few people I know have played around with chat gpt but that's about it. What have you been using ai for??
This guy probably doesn't know how to use a computer or a smartphone. Anyway, next time, it will be AIs vs AIs. AIs will behave like humans; some of them will do revenge / kamikaze trading, some will do counter-trend trading, some will earn just a few cents, some will earn tons of money, some can only press BUY first, some can press BUY or SELL first etc etc And some will end up in a Mental Hospital.
Apparently every rise in price is a bubble. The time to sell is when permabears like this tell you to buy.
At the moment for me it is a useful time saver that speeds up internet searches. Without these LLMs i would have do the search myself and click through more pages. If they disappeared tomorrow it wouldn't be a big deal for me. Im sure it has more useful use cases for other people. But not sure it yet justifies the 10T+ in extra market cap it has added to stocks over the last 20 months. Once they have been trained on every internet page, book and video ever created, what next? Someone needs to come up with some new breakthrough that allows the AI to reason correctly outside of the training data instead of just making stuff up like they currently do.
Internet searches? I noticed now on Google when I search something it uses some new ai algorithm to figure it out. To me it's the same as it was, nothing spectacular or breakthrough.... And I keep hearing how AI is literally going to disrupt and end the jobs of those in call centers..... I'm going to say this is not happening anytime soon, no way in hell will ai be able to handle a call center and the millions of complaints or options a human will throw at it....the damn promps it gives me today to direct me as far from an actual customer representative is already frustrating.....
Of course its overhyped, and has limited uses at present, the game changer will be when it can reason and generalise correctly outside of its training data (Artificial General Intelligence/ AGI) The likes of Elon Musk have said this kind of AI is near, within a few years, however i suspect he doesn't really believe that and was just talking his book so he could raise billions from VC investors who would just give the money to his competitors if he doesn't grab the money for himself.. If investors accepted the truth, that AGI is probably decades away (instead of the hype saying it just a few years away), they might want to invest those billions somewhere else for now.
