Back on January 30th, the CDC said that the masks do not work at preventing Coronavirus. Now they are claiming that medical staff are at risk because they cannot get the masks. One of those statements by the 'experts' has to be a lie. Which one is it?
Do a little research and try keeping up with current events. It may come in handy at some point in your life.
Don't be so fast to criticize and do some research as well, took 5 seconds to google: Experts advise, however, that while the homemade alternatives can create a loose-fitting barrier that may mitigate the spread of some germs, they are not designed to block the spread of COVID-19, the official name of the pandemic that has swept the globe. “The only mask that the CDC considers safe from you getting the coronavirus, the only way to actually prevent you from inhaling it, is the N95 mask,” Captain Michael Doyle, a U.S. Army New York National Guard physician assistant, told USA TODAY. Those stupid little fake surgeon masks do nothing except keep your own droplets in your nose and face but they are open on the sides so really do very little. Medical staff need them more since N95s are short and they need anything better than nothing on their face. Again......easy to find out.
I believe that the establishment position on masks is that - unless it is an N95 mask- the more basic masks do not do much to prevent you from inhaling the virus if it is aerosoled where you are, but that the masks do help considerably in preventing you from spreading it. In other words, the basic masks are helpful in keeping you from coughing and sneezing and blasting snot and mucous on others and on various surfaces but if you are breathing the air that is shared by others who have covid it is not much protection. I have read in quite a few places that masks can do more harm than good if you are not trained and disciplined because people keep adjusting them and flipping them up and down and the whole idea is to keep you from touching your face. Then you put a mask on and adjust the frigging thing every 30 seconds and end out touching your face more often- not less. A lot of people may do better with the N95 mask not just because it is an effective mask but because health professionals have also had some training to go with it. Not necessarily so for someone who got their mask from their cousin who was using it on his industrial job.
If “everyone” wore a mask, even like a dust-mask, non n95, it would help slow down transmission by the reasons you listed. But with the shortage in our healthcare system at the moment it’s better to have them there. Bandanna’s? Something to cover our mouths and noses from polluting others? Just be careful when you walk in the nearby connivence store you don’t get mistaken for a robber.
Not a problem. Robbery is no longer a crime where I live and store owners are not allowed to have guns so you don't need to worry about being shot. And if you have a mask usually they just think you are a whips and chains kind of guy and it is all good. It's using plastic straws you gotta be careful with. That will get you sent to Gitmo.
Overnight was right, stop being cocky, it may come handy in the future. There are all kind of masks, and actually people who already have the virus should wear them because it can stop the spread. There is also the proper form of wearing them. Or for how long. Or if you can reuse them, etc. So do a little research...
Improperly used, the N95 mask can do more harm than good. If someone is constantly adjusting and touching the mask on their face exposure to the virus increases significantly. The benefit of all masks is for patients that already have the virus and don't want to spread it further.
