"Some of the president's opponents have claimed that it is an attempt to suppress Latino Americans' political power". Oh, so illegal aliens should have political power in the US. Sounds like the Democratic party to me. Duh. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/these-states-would-lose-house-seats-under-trump-census-order-study
Not a peep from the Democratic illegal alien supporters here at ET so far. Maybe they are taking their old ladies to the abortion clinic?
To play devils advocate here how do you reconcile illegal aliens who pay their taxes? Suppose you're an illegal alien who works and pays their taxes. Yes, you can do this. Yes, these people do exist. Should these people be given a right to vote? Taxation without representation and all... Of course what I am alluding to here is that if we based voting rights on tax payments we might be surprised at who and who isn't allowed to vote.
How many illegals pay taxes? A lot of them work under the table like in construction. A good many of them are just plain criminals. And no, these people should not be allowed to vote. Or even live in this country. Therefore we have deportation. This country is already over-populated.
I disagree with much of this. We need a rational, practical solution for illegal immigration. Any reasonable policy would involve three parts: Registration of all illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. Provide any illegal immigrant with a six year renewable Visa if they don't have a felony record. Enhancing our border patrol and surveillance to keep new illegal immigrants out of the U.S. Most illegal immigrants in the U.S. work hard. Only a small percentage are criminals (beyond being here illegally). The reality is that the cost of deporting all the illegal immigrants would be astronomical; we should allow the hard-working ones to stay and bring them out into mainstream work economy. Have them pay taxes, add to our economy and be on a Visa so they don't fear deportation. While some immigrants are being paid off-the-books and not paying taxes; a good number are filing with ITN. Some use the SSN's of others when attempting to "qualify" to work in the U.S. -- which creates tax problems. The U.S. is hardly over-populated -- we have reams of empty land across the U.S.
Do you have any idea how many innocent people are raped and murdered on a daily basis by illegal aliens? I guess you don't care about that fact right?
A very small number. This gets back to the concept that you don't own your country unless you know who is in your country. The first step needs to be the registration of all illegal immigrants in the U.S. -- any with a felony record will be deported. The many others who are hard-working individuals will get a multi-year renewable Visa. These people add value to our economy. Who is going to build your home, process your meat, pick your crops and other jobs that are hard to find labor for. Let's get these people out in the light and incorporated into our economy as legal workers.
