Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee opened up a new front in that war today by targeting disabled Social Security recipients. They didn't say they were conducting a class war, of course. Instead they claimed that they were concerned about the future financial stability of the Social Security disability program. A 20-percent benefit cut would almost certainly be a "death sentence" for many disabled Americans, as Acting Social Security Commissioner Carolyn Colvin told the committee today. Broader cuts to retiree benefits -- which the Republicans have made clear is their real goal -- would be disastrous for the elderly. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rj-eskow/the-republicanclasswars-n_b_6669906.html
The Social Security system was never designed to support SS Disability. It was designed to support retirement of people who paid into it. It is LONG overdue that they totally eliminate the Social Security Disability system and stop all payments. It is driving the Social Security system as a whole into bankruptcy and the SSD part will be totally out of funds within two years. The majority of people taking SS Disability payments are scam artists in my opinion. The sooner they clean up this mess and eliminate SSD the better.
Funding shortfall for Social Security disability program: Is it real? Republicans say Social Security’s support for people with disabilities will be 'broke' next year; the Obama budget suggests the system needs only a patch. But both sides agree: Something must be done by 2016. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Dec...Social-Security-disability-program-Is-it-real
everybody that can operate a calculator knows we need to raise SSI tax. And the sooner the easier. What's the big deal? True, it's not very efficient, but it works, every month everybody gets their check, and we like it.
Exactly. Those lazy disabled veterans are a drain on the system. We used them up. They're no good anymore. Throw them away!!
The military has already has a Veteran and VA disability compensation plan. These people should not be enrolled in the SS Disability program or SSI program. If there is a gap in this area then Congress needs to fix it so the military fully funds the payments to disabled veterans. Info on the VA plan is provided below... The VA Disability Compensation Pays: The amount of basic benefit paid ranges from $127 to over $3,100 per month, depending on your level of disability and number of dependents. Note: You may be paid additional amounts if: you have very severe disabilities or loss of limb(s) you have a spouse, child(ren), or dependent parent(s) you have a seriously disabled spouse
