I have gamed the local bank just for fun a couple of times. Bank spreads on currencies are as wide as the grand canyon. The only reason why I did it was beat there best CD rate in a mater of a few weeks. I went with actual cash vs. one of their products. Spreads on the USD/CAD are usually 700+ pips. They do have a bank fee charge both ways also. But it put a big smile on my face holding the original reciept on the counter when they coverted it back.
