Not too long ago, it was noted that Michael Strahan, an NFLer, attacked Trump over Clemson's visit to the White House. He finished off his political rant, which was mostly in broken English, and proclaimed "We gonna take care of you". It was almost as articulate as Lebron James' "A lot of people wasn't educated" statement, when he was discussing Trump voters. The important thing to note is that Strahan does not appear to understand that there is a verb "to be" in the English language. Now we have the NFL's playoff commercial in which a bunch of people are jumping around and chanting "We ready". Quite an interesting chant, especially considering it is not in English. After repeating "We ready" numerous times, the commercial poses the question "You ready?" In some messed up, alternate reality, it seems that the NFL and the people who speak for it, have forgotten that there is a verb "to be". Perhaps we have to go to a simpler time when the verb "to be" and its meaning was openly debated. Who can forget Bill Clinton's famous "It depends on what your definition of 'is' is." Bill Clinton was a man who knew the verb "to be" and its many conjugated forms and injected it into the national debate. The NFL could learn a lot from the former President.
