I am often asked why I remain a member of the Republican Party. My stock answer has become that it's the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower and I would like very much to return it to similar hands and am working, however infinitesimally well, to do so. Leaving the party would accomplish nothing in that regard. I also contend that there are still sane and sober people -- in the minority to be sure -- remaining in my party.

Over the past few days, I have been publicly corroborated by seven such people: Susan Collins of Maine, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lamar Alexander and Robert Corker of Tennessee, Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Dan Coats of Indiana, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. These seven senators refused to join the other 47 Republican members of the Senate who made fools of themselves by seeking blatantly to undermine the president's and the P5+1's (China, Russia, Britain, and France, plus Germany) diplomacy to stop Iran's acquiring a nuclear weapon.

All you can do is post multiple articles from The Onion and try to pass it off as intelligent political commentary.

On the other hand the articles are probably more factual than nonsense taken from Salon and Alternet.

Db, were you trying to imply that the picture of McConnell's throat pouch is REAL??

    Lol.

  9. He is right that the republican party was historically the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower, and the Bushes I might add. And Boehner, McCain, Lindsey Graham and Bloomberg.

That is reason enough for principled conservatives to question whether it is the proper place for us. The party establishment treats conservatives worse than the democrats treat blacks. At least they pay lip service to helping blacks and throw them the odd crumb. Blacks, without whom the democrats would never win another election, don't have to listen to comments disparaging their ideas or influence. The republican establishment treat conservatives as a necessary evil at best and an embarrassment at worse.

Why do we put up with this crap? Did the mid-term elections reflect an overwhelming display of voter enthusiasm for the leadership of John Boehner? Or was it an endorsement of conservative attacks on obama and his lawless agenda?

If you think the Republican party of today has anything whatsoever to do with the Republican party of Lincoln, you have some books to crack.
