The last gas pipeline to Europe goes thru Ukraine...

Discussion in 'Commodity Futures' started by earth_imperator, Sep 15, 2022.

  1. Since the stop of gas flow thru the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, the only remaining Russian gas pipeline goes thru Ukraine.
And Russia and Ukraine are in war...
So, then what consequences will it have if that last pipeline too stops operation?...
Profiting from that knowledge should not be that difficult... :D

I guess a brilliant chess move by the Russians.
The West doesn't know, but IMO Russia has all the collective West by their balls, so to say :D

Most of Europe is already off Russian gas. Countries like Finland and the Baltics were mostly off Russian for a long time knowing Russian extortion methods. The LNG terminal built by Estonia/Finland will be finished in the coming months supplying enough for both countries. Flow will likely also reach Latvia as that's where the storage tanks are for Baltics.

Russia is also fairly screwed at this point because the gas card didn't play out. Sanctions were not eased and winter gas supply is already secured. LNG terminals across Europe will be ready next year and the higher priced gas will arrive from Norway, Qatar, US.

The new Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict means Russia will have to live up to its promise of protecting Armenia, which means it's another proxy war, this time it's Armenia/Russia vs Azerbaijan/Turkey. The region will be very interesting to watch as Russia has barely any friends left.

Russia and Japan; Russia and China and of course fusion is in perpetual 20 years away. Can both China and Japan pickup the slack? Maybe coal and carbon capture is another good enough green alternative for Europe.

In any system, there is a path of least resistance.

First it'll be the LNG terminals that are expedited. Concurrently the pipeline projects will start. The distances are relatively short, the issues are mainly political. Meanwhile Russian pipelines to China and India will take forever to complete as the distances are incredibly vast.

LNG is not a solution for Europe.
It's expensive. They will not freeze but they need Russia and Russian gas to maintain economy in it's current state.
    Decline will be swift
