The hero America deserves:In the last few months, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has vowed to sell almost all his possessions, named his newborn son X Æ A-12, described Tesla as being overvalued, recited the lyrics to The Star-Spangled Banner, and made sure that everyone knows “Facebook sucks.” And if all goes according to plan, on May 27, two American astronauts will strap into the nose of a Falcon 9 rocket built by SpaceX, marking the first time a privately built rocket and capsule will put humans into space. Here’s what the billionaire entrepreneur has been up to in 2020.(Bloomberg) “America is still the land of opportunity more than any other place, for sure. There is definitely no other country where I could have done this—immigrant or not.”
When his bank account reads 0 and his brokerage account is closed I will believe him. Until then this is a clever marketing scheme along the same lines as the $1 salary for a CEO. Most of their net worth is tied up in incentive stock options. He also probably has significant liquid assets he could sell for millions (houses, etc).
take the red pill, boys His TSLA price manipulation can be interpreted as a protection of his market gamblers: - "funding secured @420" (blaze it) --> protecting the overly pessimistic short-sellers - "TSLA overvalued imo" --> protecting the overly optimistic post-rona rally surfers He is the hero that we need, but the hero that we deserve.
Top guy, intelligent, nuts, but still down the earth and here for a good time, hated by PC's ofcourse which makes him my hero
Not because of fear of judgement. Told in Joe Rogan's podcast - ,,Yeah... But you're billionaire...It's easy for you. So - what are they going to say now , when i have nothing ? Even going to rent my apartment'' People miss, that his image is as important as the most expensive add/marketing campaign. How often he has to restrain himself, when speaking with people of lesser intelligence. (i really respect him for that the most, the stoicism approach of just realizing that you can't escape it, while maintaining such lifestyle & goals) The era of CEOs being the - brands.
Must you quantify everything into $$$? Couldn't you have simply said that Musk wanted to leave a lasting legacy for his children that there's more to life than mere success and material wellbeing?
I highly question this line of reasoning. Musk, the guy who is the ultimate egomaniac and destroyed every marriage relationship he was ever in and lorded it over every female companionship he ever had suddenly plays the caring guy with foresight and insight into how to be a good family role model? Not buying it for one second. His track record is just not compatible with his sudden utterances on the meaningless pursuit for wealth...$$$ is his god and always has been. Only self absorbed people who waste their life on selfish pursuits care about leaving a legacy. They failed to live a life of love and care for others but suddenly pretend to want to leave something behind for others? Does not make any sense. It's more the epitomy and height of selfishness, the desire to garner admiration and respect for myself even beyond my time on earth... That is what leaving a legacy is usually all about. Someone who lived a fruitful life with the intent to make this world a better place for those around oneself have done all the work they could possibly do without the need to leave anything behind.
