Some great slides in the deck DeSantis presented.

Remember when we all heard about how Florida was going to become the next Italy? I do. I laughed then, and I laugh now. Good times.

And people wonder why we don't believe "the experts". "Read the data and learn" they tell us. What a joke. Oh, but the models!!

    upload_2020-5-5_7-22-9.png
Then we hear "the model is adaptive!" Yeah, it adapts to people realizing it is horseshit.

Here we go. Accurate, adaptive "models".

    LOL!!

Remember the fear mongering about what would happen when we run out of ventilators? How we'd have to "choose who lived and died"? Good times.

More on the great, adaptive "models".

Remember the "flatten the curve" narrative? Is that actual line even a curve? I can't tell. Looks like a straight line. Oh, I guess everything we did was magically successful, even better than the adaptive models could have hoped for! Fucking joke.

And for all this, we put millions out of work, bankrupted companies, destroyed small businesses, put people on welfare, in food bank lines waiting to get food.

Well done, bunch of twits. Solid thinking.

I've got a lot more slides, but I think you get the point by now. Unless you're driving a narrative, in which case I can't wait to hear the "but but but" excuses and horseshit. If you want the full deck you can download them from the governor's website like I did. His press conference was hilarious, pissing all over these people who were calling for the end of Florida.

  6. Even weather forecasters are not this inaccurate and they're off the majority of the time, at least in my neck of the woods. It's not that they were so completely off the mark, it's the huge, life altering decisions that were made as a result of them. How could anyone, any real scientist, doctor, statistician, anyone with any sense at all take seriously projections such as these when they had such limited data to work with? There is no conclusion to draw other than this. These people, every god damn one of them, are either incompetent on a level so staggering it's incomprehensible, or they had an agenda to push. Actually there is a third choice which frankly is worse than the first two if you really think about it. They were so frightened, so filled with panic, so completely terrified that they abandoned all reason and logic. Not exactly the kind of people you want as leaders now is it?

Because health officials and scientists don't care if they are wrong with their forecasts. They don't want to be right. Because if they're right, the end of the world comes with the disease and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, die. So they will always push forecasts and models to show catastrophe. People who are elected or hired to make decisions for the benefit of all people need to understand this and see both sides of the story and know that if they make errors, real people suffer and the economy is destroyed.

It is understanding that a narrative is being pushed. It is OK to push a narrative if the people making the decisions understand that it is a narrative and not necessarily the truth. The problem is that our leadership is severely lacking and goes with the media pressure that is pushing a different narrative - one that is politically aligned with success for their party.

So you've got scientists genuinely concerned about a disease but not caring about anything other than stemming the tide of the disease who exaggerate its danger to do what they can to stem the tide. Then you have the media latching on to this and saying "lets destroy the economy because that will be bad for Trump.". Then you have all sorts of Modern Monetary Theory seizing upon the opportunity to get the Fed to bail everyone out and established policy that would otherwise be considered lunacy, but now is considered "necessary". All of these people pushing their own narratives.

A real leader would be able to have them all at the table and would be strong enough to say "sorry, I understand the risks you are presenting but you aren't seeing the big picture here." and push back. But we don't have real leaders anymore. So we act like a herd of gazelle spooked by the sight of a leopard in the weeds. That's all we are.

Congratulations Tsing for getting your job back @ Publix, now clean up the mess in aisle 5.

  9. What, exactly, are you talking about?

  10. In a nutshell for the obtuse. Our leaders are incompetent cowards, and the media had an agenda to push which results in the collapse of a nation. Not to worry though, Old Joe will lead us out of the rubble and to the promise land of justice and equality for all. It'll be different this time, really it will
