Trump budget would slash rental aid by 40% — and let states fill the gap if they want In its request for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the White House called the current system of federal rental assistance "dysfunctional" and proposed essentially ending Section 8 and other housing voucher programs. Its plan calls for cutting rental aid by about 40% and sending that money to states "to design their own rental assistance programs based on their unique needs and preferences." It would also impose a two-year cap on rental assistance for able-bodied adults, which it said would ensure an even bigger share of federal subsidies went to the elderly and disabled. ___________________ Work camps would be better than destroying neighborhood with Section 8.
Huds total funding in 2024 was 73 billion. Trump signed into law 8.4 trillion in new spending in his first term and is about pass new tax cuts that will cost 5 trillion plus more spending on things like increasing military spending. But yall are more worried about the 73 billion for section 8
you don’t follow the charitable foundation news. i can tell you that new section 8 housing constructions and managements, are considered charitable donations. jobs’s foundation, run by his widow, did considerable amounts in this space. government doesn’t build housing, the private sector do. housing for poor people are not communism, nor social welfare. it is a safety net for working class, whom otherwise will be living on the streets.
Let's first address your comment about destroying a neighborhood with Section 8. LBJ established the "Great American Plan. Large housing complexes were built for low income people. These complexes became slums and havens for crime & poverty. Modern Section 8 vouchers typically provide housing spread out across many lower and middle income neighborhoods. The intent is to spread out the Section 8 people rather than housing them all in single complexes dedicated to poor people (which failed totally as a policy). Additionally many apartment complexes built today are using low income housing tax credits which go to the owners/developers. Typically the developers commit that 10% of units will go to house low income people at reduced rents (and may include section 8 vouchers). Many people don't even realize the nice rental complex they live in with a pool, clubhouse, etc. has dedicated 10% of their units to low income people. The intent of modern Section 8 housing and complexes dedicating a fraction of their units to low income people is to end the failed policy of crowding all the low income people in crowded slum complexes. The other intent of Section 8 vouchers and housing assistance is to avoid having millions of homeless people wandering the streets. Take a look at the 1930s if you want a vision of what the future holds with drastic cutbacks in Section 8 vouchers. If you think the homeless problem is bad now then just multiple it by several thousand percent once these people lose their vouchers and their housing. Would you rather have these people housed or camping outside your nice suburban home in the common area? Any policy involving the underclass is going to fail. Better to keep them concentrated in one place that the police can efficiently watch.
1938 the Fateful year. Leave the poor alone, they need their safety net. Greed for power is why Rino's have shit for brains, same as the Dem's, also the entire Judicial Branch.
