The Economist

  1. Curious if anyone here actually subscribes to it. Or would I just be wasting my reading/time? I'm planning so far on giving it a try.

I enjoy it - as entertainment.

I don't subscribe to it (way too rich for my blood) but I buy it to read it whenever I travel. The best sleeping pill ever with no side effects!! Five minutes in, you are out, I guarantee you.

The analysis is really thorough and in-depth though so if you do manage to stay awake, you end up learning a lot about not just the US economy but also the world's economy.

  5. What's your goal, purpose, from reading that publication?
Are you hoping that will improve your trading, and make you a millionaire in the market, and give you the holy grail,

It's good to expand your horizons, I suppose, but don't let your head travel too far. Keep your head on the ground, and be tactical and in reality, and wise, and independent-minded,

Instead of spending so much time reading all of those books,
You should write your own book....titled....How to become a Big Time Millionaire in the Market

The Economist is pretty solid for keeping abreast of world news you won't hear/read about anywhere else - e.g. the political & military dynamics of the ongoing civil war in Shitholeistan, or details about the upcoming presidential election in Kleptocrastan.

They have a few annoying hobby horses (they're slavishly devoted to immigration and globalism generally, along with simple-minded GDP-line-goes-up economics), but by 2022 press standards they're among the best men standing.

I subscribed for years then they started tilting way too far left and I stopped. I just wanted pure economic analysis - the dry wonky stuff, not a bunch of woke signaling editorial content. It was really good years ago, but not today.

WSJ + IBD = much better ; unless you live in hi tax Europe. NO
WOULDNT call any businesss new$ a waste of time\even though WSJ wastes a lot of time promoting the 65dma+ low PE Dow whcih tend to go low + lower\LOL:D:D
IBD 50dma\200dma chart are better\even though WSJweekly candlecharts are helpful

It's a power elite mouthpiece, like the Atlantic and many other overrated rags. If you can read between the lines and pick up what elitists say to each other in code..maybe it has some value. Otherwise, it's something normies read to think they're smart and sophisticated...while the aristocrats laugh and sneer.

in 2005, I subscribed and read it religiously until 2008.

I got two trade ideas that paid for the time invested.

my understanding of rates and macro economics greatly improved. This was during a time of dollar devaluation and the rise of the euro and emerging markets while at the same time having artificially low interest rates as China was using foreign reserves to buy US treasuries.

if you read it two years ago, it would probably be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you today.
