Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu held talks with the Iranian leadership in Tehran amid rising fears of a full-scale war in the Middle East, Russian state media reported on Monday.

Images published by the Iranian government showed Shoigu meeting with his counterpart in Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, before later meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the chief of staff of the country’s military, Mohammad Bagheri.

Shoigu’s visit comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, following the Iranian leadership’s announcement that it plans to “punish” Israel in a retaliatory strike this week following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday.

The New York Times reported on Monday that the Iranian government had requested advanced air defence systems from Russia ahead of its expected strike on Israel, citing officials familiar with the country’s military strategy who said that Russia had begun to deliver advanced radars and air defence equipment to Tehran.

Moscow and Tehran have deepened diplomatic and military ties since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with the West having introduced several additional rounds of sanctions on Iran in attempts to stop it supplying Shahed attack drones to the Russian government for use in Ukraine.

Iranian state media reported on Monday that Shoigu had condemned the “cowardly” killing of Haniyeh and said that Russia was prepared to offer “full cooperation to Iran on regional issues” during his visit, while both he and Pezeshkian hailed increasingly close ties between the two countries.

“The common stance and cooperation between Iran and Russia in promoting a multipolar world will undoubtedly lead to the further strengthening of global security and peace”, Pezeshkian said

And now we understand why Netanyahu has been pushing for a conflict with Iran... Iran needs Russian defense support at a time when Russia is losing massive quantities of military gear and humans on the Ukrainian front. Providing aid to Iran will embolden Ukraine to push Russian lines and recover their land.
Israel and the US don't fear Iran at all. They want the fight, primarily to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities. This war would be a disaster for the Ayatollahs and their proxy terrorist organizations.
Imagine a day when Iran is forced to recognize Israel, abandon its nuclear ambitions and be required to stop arming Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houtis. Peace in the Middle East would finally have a chance.

    The winners:
Netanyahu. If everything goes according to plan he become the hero of Israel.
Ukraine. They need and deserve to retake their land sooner than later. They've shown that Russia's Black Sea fleet is pointless and Russia can do without it. The region becomes unnecessary. Give the 2 pro Russia regions ti Puti as good will in exchange for billions in reparations.
Europe and the US. The cost of supporting Ukraine is taking a financial toll and cannot continue for another decade. The sooner a peace plan is signed, the better it is.

    The losers:
Iran. If Iran attacks Israel as expected they need to make it insignificant, like the previous. Anything dramatic will trigger an Israeli reply times 10. Israel hopes for it, because they and the US will annihilate their nuclear development program and remove Iran as a nuclear threat.
Israel hopes the conflict turns into a full blown war to devastate Iran's military might, with overt support from the US and Europe. The only acceptable conditions for an end to the conflict is full recognition of Israel, end the the financial backing of the terrorist groups, namely Hezbollah, Hamas and Houtis.
The Iran supported terrorist organizations. Without Iranian funding these groups are at the mercy of their local enemies, Sunni Islamists. Without arms they will fold quickly.
Shia Islam in the Middle East. Iran has spent 5 decades financing groups to throw Israel out of their perceived Islamic land, hoping to turn Shia into the dominant Islamic religion.

Just crash the oil prices = no more money for war.
    Everything is just business.

Yes, oil finances all in the Middle East, another reason I'm supportive of alternative green energies. Take away 30% global demand for oil and watch how the Middle East transforms.
