The CDC's Hysterical Delta Flip-Flop Might Be Its Final Undoing

The crazy, convoluted, mixed up messaging from the CDC – it's been this way from the beginning of the pandemic until now – has taken yet another turn. Now the CDC is recommending masks not just for the unvaccinated but for the vaccinated too. This is supposedly because of the discovery that the variant known as Delta is making an end-run around the vaccines, causing not only infections but infectious spread.

So we have an odd situation developing. The layperson’s understanding of a vaccine is that it protects a person against infection, like measles or smallpox. In other words, you won’t get Covid, exactly as President Biden accidentally and apparently inaccurately said in a press conference last week. That is apparently untrue in this case. That realization seemed to dawn on people only a few weeks ago, as reports from Israel revealed that half the new infections listed were with people who had been fully vaccinated.

I pity anyone who took a few weeks’ vacation from the news during this period. We went from believing that the whole point of the vaccines was to protect against infection to realizing that this was not the case. You can still get the bug. The point of the vaccines, we were newly told, is to protect against severe outcomes. Okay, that’s reasonable enough except that we know the demographics of severe outcomes, and hence the question presents itself: why is the policy priority near-universal vaccination?

None of this makes sense – if you are still looking for policies to make sense, which you probably gave up on long ago.

Now to the great mask conundrum. In May, Anthony Fauci showed up to a Senate hearing fully vaccinated but wearing a mask. Rand Paul lit into him, claiming that this was absurd. Fauci, he said, was undermining confidence in the vaccines. We need to give people a reward for being vaccinated, he said. If you can’t even take off your mask, why bother?

I suspect that the CDC listened carefully to his point. Senator Paul might just be one guy but he is positioned to impact policy because he has unusual access to the public, and to Fauci himself. Fauci is otherwise only on friendly terms with media who listen and adore every pronouncement. Paul has access by virtue of Senate protocol and therefore can make a dent in what’s actually happening out there in CDC land.

The CDC had become very aware that vaccination rates had flattened. They figured it was worth a try. So in early May, the agency did a messaging turnaround. It announced that people who are vaccinated no longer need to wear a mask. Fauci dutifully went on all the talk shows and invited the vaccinated to enjoy their privileges. He even smiled when saying so!

That was an interesting day for me because many of my anti-lockdown friends celebrated that the 16 months of living hell had officially ended. They correctly predicted that everyone, including the unvaccinated would now take off their masks and life could go back to normal. They were correct for everyone except the poor children who, because there is no vaccine for them, became permanently marked as wild-born disease carriers even though they are not.

Hey, the CDC had to be consistent, even when the results were cray cray, and therefore did not exempt children.

Well, how did vaccination rates respond? Far from incentivizing people to get the jab, everyone took off their masks and dared authorities to ask for their papers. This is because after a year and months of egregious restrictions on freedom, people were fed up and looking for some means by which they could pretend to go back to normal. Vaccination rates stayed stuck for the reason that everyone who wanted a vaccine already got it, while the rest possess natural immunity, are wary of the medicine, or were more than willing to accept the risks of exposure.

Now the CDC had a problem. The great goal of a 70% rate among all people was elusive, and infuriating the pandemic planners who demanded this based on the pharmaceutical definition of herd immunity. They embraced that definition because, for some reason that remains inexplicable for everyone not working for vaccine manufacturers, natural immunity has been thoroughly dismissed as primitive and irrelevant. Talk about ignoring the science!

Then on July 22, the influential Washington Post published the following:

So the CDC needs to state, as it should have in May, that unless there is a way to distinguish between the vaccinated and unvaccinated, indoor mask requirements should be reinstated…. The Biden administration has done many things right during the pandemic, but it made a grave error with its premature return to normalcy. It must hit reset and issue new guidance that addresses the escalating infections, waning interest in vaccination and unknowns of the delta variant. If it doesn’t, we could well be on our way to another national surge — and one that was entirely foreseen and entirely preventable.

The CDC seems more easily led by op-eds in political newspapers than actual scientific papers on the topic, of which there are many thousands now. They want digestible, clear instructions on what they should be doing. This piece in the Washington Post provided exactly that. Thus did the CDC reverse itself yet again.

But in doing so, it needed some rationale. This is when the agency jumped on the excuse of how the Delta variant often evades the vaccines, so therefore even the vaccinated need masks. It’s not clear whether and to what extent the CDC realizes that it has just once again undermined public confidence in the vaccines! The horns of the dilemma are obvious to anyone who is watching this clown show unfold. If the CDC removes the mask guidance, people don’t get vaccinated; if they add it back in, people have another excuse to avoid the jab. Masks in this case remain what they always were: a tool to prod the public into compliance with other mandates and dictates, purely a symbol of fear and its unrelenting trigger. And with fear comes obedediance. Maybe.

The real problem, conclude many, is this bogus freedom of choice. This is why there is more constant talk about vaccine mandates, and why NPR gets breathless with excitement at every new directive – from the Department of Veterans Affairs, for example – of new mandates. What they are really pushing for is a society-wide mandate that would push the shot on everyone. Biden reportedly will impose this on the whole federal workforce.

The Department of Justice has paved the way by issuing an opinion that such mandates are perfectly in keeping with the law. More mayors are backing the idea. The public is warmed up day by day to accept what two years ago would have universally been considered an Orwellian nightmare of passports and papers for access to regular life. It’s completely unAmerican in every way, and wholly unnecessary. It is further proof that once disease panic gets underway, and governments use it to enhance their powers in shocking ways, it becomes extremely difficult to dial it back.

Remember when only the “conspiracy theorists” said that the real goal was a passport and eventually a China-style social credit score?

At this point, anything is possible. The Biden administration can’t even bring itself to lift Trump-era restrictions on flights from Europe, even though every strain circulating there has long been circulating here. The default motive of exposure avoidance has completely spun out of control, holding even basic freedoms in the balance. Today your human rights are wholly contingent on what the pandemic planners desire, whether it is stay-at-home orders, school closures, mask mandates, or compulsory jabs.

What ultimately may be our saving grace here are the furious parents who have just been told that they must once again strap a cloth on the kids’ faces this fall. These poor kids have been messed with enough as it is. Maybe this will be the last straw, the final discrediting of the CDC, and the moment at which the American people will demand that enough is way more than enough.

The Destruction of Trust In The CDC and Public Health Establishment Is Now Complete
The new mask recommendations are a disgraceful debacle, doomed to fail...again

As soon as politicians, media members and incompetent and terrified “experts” became ideologically committed to ineffective interventions, they could never end.

The CDC has been the most reliable and consistent contributor to destructive and functionally useless mask recommendations. They’ve used unconscionably bad and dangerously incompetent and misleading “studies,” along with hilariously useless “hairdresser” examples to “prove” mask efficacy. Finally though, after throwing out their own pre-pandemic planning documents to promote a policy with no demonstrable benefits, the CDC displayed confidence in the “safe and effective” vaccines and removed their useless mask guidelines just two and a half months ago.

And yet. It’s all happening. The CDC flip flopped again. Masks are back.

Many of us arguing against lockdowns and masks and other related and equally ineffective “mitigations” have been pointing out for months now that the CDC has been unbelievably bad at their literal one job. We’ve been pointing out that the CDC’s credibility has been irreparably damaged based on their demonstrable incompetence and ever changing messaging with unchanging certainty. But no one, and I mean no one, could have foreseen that the death blow to the CDC’s credibility would come from the CDC itself.

I guess it shouldn’t be as surprising as it is that they put the final nail in their own coffin, but somehow their devotion to pseudoscience never ceases to amaze.

Bringing back masks is the end. It has to be. They were unequivocal in their assertions that the available vaccines were remarkably effective at preventing infections and transmission, symptomatic illness, severe cases and ultimately deaths.

Yesterday’s announcement is completely incompatible with their previous statements and should be an inescapable disaster for the country’s trust in “public health” and what the CDC, Fauci and others laughably refer to as “science.”

So let’s go over this unfolding debacle!

    April 1
INTELLIGENCER HEADLINE: “CDC Data Suggests Vaccinated Don’t Carry, Can’t Spread Virus”
Got that? No hemming and hawing, no uncertainly, no “don’t spread the virus as much,” it literally says that the vaccinated CAN NOT SPREAD THE VIRUS. CAN NOT. It’s not possible for them to spread it, that’s what the “data” says.

Here’s a direct quote from the CDC director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky:

“Vaccinated people do not carry the virus — they don’t get sick,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Tuesday. That’s “not just in the clinical trials, but it’s also in real-world data.”

They do not carry the virus and do not get sick. Focus on the “they do not carry the virus” part for a second. If vaccinated people can’t carry it, how can they spread it?

They can’t! That’s what the CDC says:

Walensky was referring to a new CDC study that suggests those fully inoculated with the vaccines produced by Moderna and Pfizer don’t transmit the virus.

    So naturally,

“The authorized vaccines are the key tool that will help bring an end to this devastating pandemic.”

They are the key tool. Masks used to be, of course, but now vaccines will end the pandemic. Let’s keep that in mind.

    April 1
FORTUNE HEADLINE: “It’s official: Vaccinated people don’t transmit COVID-19”
    It’s official!

    May 13
CNN HEADLINE: “People vaccinated against Covid-19 can go without masks indoors and outdoors, CDC says”
The big day. The CDC says that vaccinated people no longer need masks, inside or outside.

Calling it an “exciting and powerful moment,” Walensky said the science supports the updated CDC guidance that “anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities – large or small – without wearing a mask or physical distancing.”

Got it? “The Science™” supports the new guidance that vaccinated individuals don’t need masks. The Science™ is unassailable and absolute. It is unequivocal. And The Science™ decreed that vaccinated individuals did not carry and could not transmit the virus.

Not just that, the vaccines are nearly 100% effective in reducing symptomatic infections:

The Israeli study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, showed the vaccine was 97% effective against symptomatic Covid-19 and 86% effective against asymptomatic infection in over 5,000 health care workers.

So not only are the vaccinated unable to transmit or carry the virus, they are nearly completely protected from the slightest symptoms, let alone severe ones.

    May 13
    THE PRESIDENT:

    LOL

    June 29

In this video, Fauci says, and I quote: “if in fact, you are vaccinated, fully vaccinated, you are protected, and you do not need to wear a mask, outdoors or indoors.”

Perhaps more importantly, he also said: “we know from experience now that the vaccines that we’re using in this country do very well against the delta variant.”

This will be extremely relevant shortly!

    The Impact - July 1

Time to take a quick pause here to review the impact that the CDC’s new mask guidance on May 13th had on COVID cases in the United States. And this is an important point. If masks were key to reducing the spread of infections in the US during the era of widespread vaccinations and the delta variant, it would be evident that ending mask mandates across the country led to an immediate increase. Remember, masks are so powerful, the previous head of our beloved CDC had this to say last year: “U.S. CDC head says mask-wearing could get COVID-19 under control within 4-8 weeks.”

So let’s see if cases skyrocketed weeks after many Americans tore off their masks!

They did not. They did not skyrocket at all.

So why would they expect masks to be effective now, after we’ve already seen that lifting them in the delta variant era didn’t matter? Because they are ideologically committed to ineffective interventions.

    July 16

BUSINESS INSIDER “SCIENCE” HEADLINE: “Fauci: Vaccinated people who contract COVID-19 are far less likely to spread the virus than unvaccinated people”

This is literally twelve days ago. TWELVE DAYS AGO. Fauci, our lord and protector, our Time “Guardian of the Year” award winner, said that even if vaccinated people contracted the virus, they were extraordinarily unlikely to spread it. He even gave a science-y reason for it too!

Fauci said vaccinated people who develop asymptomatic infections have "considerably less" virus in their nasal passages compared to unvaccinated people with asymptomatic infections.

"I think one can make a reasonable assumption, based on the level of virus in the nasopharynx, that it would be less likely that that vaccinated breakthrough person would transmit compared to an unvaccinated person," Fauci said in the briefing.

Behold, the decree from The Science™ twelve days ago! Fauci, in his eminent infallibility, proclaimed to the public, well into the delta variant era, that if vaccinated people have a “breakthrough” infection, they’re essentially still not going to transmit the virus. That’s what he said!

    July 27
CNBC Headline: “CDC reverses indoor mask policy, saying fully vaccinated people and kids should wear them indoors”

There it is. The destruction of any remaining shreds of credibility the CDC and Fauci had left.

So what was the justification for this dramatic shift? The delta variant! The same variant that Fauci said the vaccines did “very well” against. The variant that existed in the US and that was known to be “more transmissible” when the CDC made their recommendation to remove masks in May. The variant that Fauci said in the above interview he unquestionably expected to be the “dominant” one nationwide fairly soon. Yet all of these facts did not impact his or the CDC’s assertion that if you are fully vaccinated, you are protected. That variant.

Let’s view this remarkable timeline in context:

It’s unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. What was an additional scientific reason for the new guidance?

“…fully vaccinated individuals who get infected with the variant can spread the virus just as easily as unvaccinated people.”

Got that messaging? Vaccines work very well against the delta variant, full vaccination makes you completely protected against the virus, vaccines are “the key tool to ending the pandemic,” we’re in a pandemic of “unvaccinated people” now according to the President and a litany of public health experts, and now…whoops! Turns out vaccinated people who are infected with delta can spread it just as easily as unvaccinated people.

What a complete disgrace. Whatever confidence the public had in the unequivocal assertions from the CDC, from Fauci, from the public health establishment, should justifiably be destroyed. It’s finished.

Oh and by the way, the CDC specifically said that masks should come back in areas with "substantial" or "high," transmission rates. Let’s take a look at some areas that have “substantial” or “high” transmission rates, according to the CDC’s own website:

    San Francisco:

    Marin County (next to SF):

    Suffolk County (Boston), Massachusetts:

    Miami-Dade County:

    New York County (Manhattan):

    Los Angeles County:

What are the 18+ vaccination rates in those counties? Here they are with one dose/two dose rates, according to the CDC:

    • San Francisco - 85.1%/75.7%

    • Marin County - 91.4%/83.4%

    • Suffolk County - 75.4%/67.2%

    • Miami-Dade County - 87.5%/73.1%

    • New York County - 81.8%/73.1%

    • Los Angeles County - 73%/63.5%
All of them…ALL OF THEM should be mandating masks indoors for everyone, so says The Science™. So I’ll ask the same question I asked of Los Angeles Public Health: if vaccination rates this high, as high as almost anywhere on earth, are unable to prevent areas from slipping into “substantial” or “high” transmission rates, how in the world would you expect masks to have any remote impact whatsoever?

What this really comes down to, at its core, is a desperately idiotic attempt to control something that’s out of their control, by re-recommending an intervention that’s already failed, against a variant that’s supposedly much easier to spread.

For any reasonable, rational human being, it should be the end of the slightest level of confidence in the CDC as a capable, functioning, scientifically driven agency. They have demolished the reputation of the vaccines, lending fuel to those skeptical of their efficacy. And, in a sane world, this announcement should end any and all conversation of “vaccine passports,” given that their supposed justification was to prevent infections.

Don’t take it from me, take it from an expert:

Vaccine passports “will achieve very little.” Will that stop Twitter, television experts and a hysterical press from endlessly calling for them? Of course not.

After relentlessly pushing, with unquestioning certainty, that the vaccinated literally COULD NOT carry the virus or transmit it, the CDC forever destroyed their own narrative. And that’s what this really comes down to. It’s about their over-confidence that whatever they decree at the moment is an indisputable, inarguable scientific absolute, because they said it. And then later on, when they’re inevitably proven wrong, holding their hands up and claiming they’re just updating based on The New Science™.

Just a month ago, heck, just a few days ago, saying what the CDC is saying now would have likely gotten you punished by Twitter or Facebook or any number of social media platforms, for promoting “vaccine hesitancy.” Yet we learned yesterday that there is no one better at promoting “vaccine hesitancy” than the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

I’d love to believe that this will be the end of politicians and corporations blindly following the CDC’s every whim, but I know it won’t be. It can’t be. They’re ideologically committed to failure. It’s the end of science:

And so guess what’s coming back for round 2:

That’s right. Masks. The most useless public health intervention in the history of the world. So congratulations must go out to the CDC, to Fauci and to the public health establishment on the complete demolition of trust in science. You did it.

I hate to come across as a scofflaw but so long as thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens are admitted into the USA with no masks and no vaccine or even a test I will not comply with any federal mandates on *anything*.

And that covers a lot of ground... from firearms to health policy... from tax laws to customs. I'm going to ignore the fact that there is a federal government until a legitimate government is installed. So... it could be awhile lol.
