A ballot initiative that would support breaking California into six smaller and more coherent states is being backed by Timothy Draper, a tech investor. Itâs a great idea. But why stop with California? Breaking up all of the too-large states would increase both the accountability and efficiency of the U.S. government. more . . .
Gee, another Salon article. You sure are broadly read! Actually got to the third paragraph this time before checking off the "yep, it's horseshit" column. LOL!
And I'm sure you approached it objectively. And checking it off is a lot easier than reading it. And this is how right wing ignorance is maintained.
I did approach it objectively. Then, after noticing it was based on faulty premise, I abandoned it as there was no point in continuing.
How the hell are Those People supposed to collect welfare without the federal and state govt? How the hell are Republicans going to drive 'merica into the ground without a federal or state government? How the hell are the distant cousins of the Teadiots, the Taliban/Iranian Clerics/etc., going to refer to 'merica as the Great Satan if it's divided up? etc. etc. etc.

Like CA gov Ronald Reagan said; gov is not the solution , its the problem. Thanks
Breaking up the largish states is an excellent idea, but the only ones large enough to potentially create problems (more than 10-15m people) are California, Texas, Florida and New York. Of these California seems to be a unique case because of the extreme cultural and economic divides between the various parts of the state.
