I was wondering who some of the people on this forum learn from. Specifically regarding options/trading and financial econometrics. Preferably their forum avatar and forum they post on(if they have one). I have spent the majority of this week reading "Elements of Statitical Learning", and I am in desperate need of reading something (read as "anything") else, that's more option trading related and more enjoyable. So far I have found the following avatars to explain alot through their posts. Filthy NP FDAXHunter NP Ronin NP Strange NP Sle ET Kevin Schmit ET RiskArb et. al ET Newwurldmn ET Srinir ET Doobs789 ET Martinghoul ET I have read a ton of posts from these guys, some I have read all, so exclude these names from recommendations. Thanks. Edit** not bashing EoSL, in fact it's super in depth. But I need a break over the weekend
Your list is fine as it stands, but you are leaving out many current posters and especially posters from the past. There is definitely a recency bias in your list. Some very smart people posted in ET's glory days. There are also posters who act as catalysts, who seem to elicit informative posts from others. The late lamented Nitro was one of those, but there are and have been many others. I recall well the time [infrequent but knowledgeable poster] more or less detailed his entire method in an ill-fated attempt to explain crude oil curve trading to Nitro. Also. see if you can find an archived version of the old fattail forum. There were some good discussions there.
Maverick 74 ET is a perfect guy to talk to for anyone who is dreaming of getting rich from selling naked options.
My list is to acknowledge those whose posts helped improved my trading skills: @Maverick74 is my #1 guy. Back in 2013, I was madly writing OTM calls after watching tastytrade thinking it was a low risk way to juice my income. Wondering why I was losing money until I read his posts on convexity and greeks in the thread "writing options for a living". @Pekelo, @drcha, @Handle123 were kind enough to answer many critical questions, pointed me in the right direction and I am very grateful. More recently in addition to your list, @destriero, @Sig, @ajacobson, @dealmaker, @TheBigShort, @jeffalvinson. I do scan and read everything in case I find something useful. It is like prospecting for gold.
Hi Someone has to mention @JackRab . In my opinion One of the bests, without any doubt. It's a pity that he has not participated in the forum for a long time.
Bumping this thread... Did anyone learn from the nuclearphynance.com forum? If yes, what general advice or opinions did you find useful? Any opinions on strategy style, research tools, trading platforms, types of predictive models or pros/cons of machine learning algorithms? No need to share the actual advice. I'm just curious about the general topics you found valuable.
Filthy = Euan Sinclair. His stuff is everywhere, I think his books are pretty useful. FDAXHunter = Apparently blew up in 2008. Interesting guy though. The others, no comment
I've not followed Filthy. What was useful about his stuff if you don't mind me asking? I'm connected to people who know and worked with FDAXHunter who said he was definitely an interesting character. They said he did very well in 2008 but there was no mention he "blew up".
