Just saw a great documentary on STARZ called The Accidental President which covers the 2016 election and analyzes in great detail the campaigns of trump and hillary. They have analysis and interviews from people on both sides with a very realistic review of the events. After watching that there is no way you can be shocked about the events of 2016 and why trump won. If you can find it I recommend watching it. Fascinating form a historical and poltical perspective.
just finished. A little light on media's complicity to give the guy millions in free publicity and barely a tinge of coverage on Russian DNC/RNC hack/influence in swing states/British Analytica shenanigans. Fair assessment of Clinton's bungling of campaign and failure to read the tea leaves. 6.5/10
I think they literally said that in the movie that the media would cover everything he said non stop and even show the podiums where he was about to come out to and build up energy for his coverage. That guy Vance Jones from CNN I think said it repeatedly as one example. remember Moonvies said trump was good for ratings. Ha ha maybe go watch it again . But how is that complicity.... that is literally the media's job!!! Didnt you watch the part where the media commentators said Hillary shunned the media and ignored so many requests for interviews and looked down on the media. I mean can you blame the medai for covering trump more who gave them something to cover. media does not make money filming hillary waving getting on a plance and saying nothing... I thought they covered the media's role and why they covered trump so much. the biggest part was how Hillary NEVER WENT TO MICHIGAN AND WISCONSIN....... she fucked the pooch in front of America and then we are supposed to believe it was emails that lost her the election? I think it was pretty balanced getting both sides to comment without going down rabbit holes of conspiracies and russia which were not fully proven items. The docu focused on the issues and the anger of the people and which conadidate tapped into it for better or for worse.
The media covered their ass in the docu by painting themselves in a good light by how "he was so controversial, we had no option but cover him", instead of ignoring his ass pre-primaries and getting butt hurt Hillary gave them a cold shoulder. Put simply, the media were the "victims of circumstances" so never admitted fault in the whole thing. It's why other democracies put caps on politicos' airtime during campaigns because you and I know there is in-kind value to coverage. As for the Russia influence, Mueller, FBI, the Senate report all did an OK job of covering it so not worth going over it again. There's few studies on its potential impact I suppose.
But cmon....the media has to cover who gets most views. If NBC decided tos top giving trump any coverage, all of its viewers would turn the channel to ABC and CBS and FOX to get what they wanted. Hillary could have gotten the same coverage if she wanted to but she chose not to and trump filled a big vaccuum. How does media ignore the biggest story of the election. What the media could have done is stop spending every hour being critical of him for 4 hours from 8PM to 11PM and claiming he was done, his campaign was over, no way he wins etc.... They fell into the same trap of preaching to their own choir instead of understanding the anger and frustration of the electorate. CNN and MSNBC acted just like the establishment basically and put hillary on a pedastal and that drove so many angry people to Fox.
Media's going to media, just own up to your responsibility in the situation is all. And Just like that, I won't give MAGAtards a pass for being ignorant dumbasses wanting to see it all burn for being pissed either. Isn't that the rationale they use for BLM riots?
