Did I say leopards? I meant crypto miners, not to mine during power shortages... :)

"Texas Governor Greg Abbot reportedly urged crypto miners to shut down in the event the state’s power grid appeared to be failing due to bad weather as it did in February last year, leaving hundreds dead.

Mr Abbot met with dozens of crypto miners in the state in October last year and asked them to temporarily shut down mining operations in case the Texas power grid failed to sustain the state’s energy needs as it did in February 2021, Bloomberg reported."

Sure Mr. Governor, because we care about your needs...

    Miner A: You first.
    Miner B: No, you first.
Miner C: Only if A and B have done it.

Moving mining to Texas never made any sense to me. Last winter highlighted how vulnerable their grid is, plus it is unplugged from the rest of the country. Incentives must have been huge.

Lol, since when did anything out of Texas make sense?

I agree, it's gonna be a PR disaster if that grid goes down this winter if those miners are on-line.

Why do you think it doesn't make sense? Electricity in TX is pretty cheap compared to other states.

That's if you have a variable rate plan. You live by the sword you die by it.

Mine is fixed rate. Same exact price. $0.09 whether summer, winter doesn't matter.

Bitcoin miners don't pay for electricity if they set it up correctly

The miners get paid to mine bitcoin because they're capturing 100% of the flare gas and saving the environment

Aramco is thinking of doing the same thing for bitcoin mining, not for revenues but to get carbon credits or something

Now, bitcoin saving the environment is the funniest thing I saw in a while. Not surprised to see it coming out of Cruz mouth.

I updated the post with article unrelated to Texas as this has been going on for a while

Bitcoin mining is mostly clean renewable energy as those are the cheapest ones to use

That's the reason El Salvador is going to use the Volcano to mine bitcoin, it's cheap clean and renewable energy

Iceland and places like that also utilize clean renewable geothermal energy for bitcoin mining
