I would like to know any figure of the usage quantities of super capacitors. something like annually or quarterly progress with numbers. Or the cost they have made for that?. Provision of (super capacitor) cost out of total battery cost?. super capacitor cost for 1 car? Activated carbon is used for create super capacitors. Any related details are welcome!
Hybrids use super caps for starting and regenerative braking (EVs can do regen), but as for energy storage, they only are in play for tens of seconds vs hours for battery packs. Price/unit energy storage is holding SCs back. Elon needs a 1000 volt, teraFarad flux capacitor https://www.cars-vehicles.net/2020/...pacitors-used-for-in-the-automotive-industry/ http://www.cap-xx.com/wp-content/up...itors-for-Automotive-Applications-website.pdf
I dont know specifics but recall that Elon had great interest in supercapacitors early in his career but has not said much about them for a long time. I suspect they are not in the future.
The new $1Mil+++ Porsche I think it is uses a super capacitor, quick wattage in and out but small actual charge, it's just a braking charge, back on the power and give extra power, think it fills in off turbo or something to reduce the turbo lag. No idea on Cost, but as the car costs so much, I'd imagine there expensive.
Just found this guys. I'm very positive with super capacitors for the future!. Only my concern was how this will affect to Activated carbon consumption. All are welcome! for any related thing on that.
It's SAD Citroen had a Air Pressure Low pressure in the boot high pressure under the seat, when you brake it moves from low to high, when you drive it reverses, just 2 chambers and a dual direction pump, no chemicals or batterys to wear out, sadly couldn't get the backing to make the production line so went battery much smarter energy regen system!!
He bot Maxwell for stock. In theory an EV manufacturer could increase their regen aggressiveness and keep acceleration low with a smaller battery pack and supercap. In practice, lithium ion tech's advanced a lot and prices dropped by so much, that the slowly evolving supercap's advantage gap has closed a lot. So for instance, a battery pack can't take a lot of regen too quickly due to thermal issues, so if you want to add a lot of regen, or discharge very quickly (as you do during acceleration), you spread it out and upsize your battery pack (not just for range). Battery tech however has improved on these areas a lot, so you can still recharge/discharge quickly on an ever decreasing package size. The supercap could in theory bridge that problem but supercaps aren't that light or small compared to the amount of energy storage they offer (if compared to a li-ion batt), they're just able to do it quickly is all.
