Tattoos and time preferences by Tyler Cowen August 26, 2019 at 2:25 am in Economics Philosophy Survey and experimental evidence documents discrimination against tattooed individuals in the labor market and in commercial transactions. Thus, individuals’ decision to get tattooed may reflect short-sighted time preferences. We show that, according to numerous measures, those with tattoos, especially visible ones, are more short-sighted and impulsive than the non-tattooed. Almost nothing mitigates these results, neither the motive for the tattoo, the time contemplated before getting tattooed nor the time elapsed since the last tattoo. Even the expressed intention to get a(nother) tattoo predicts increased short-sightedness and helps establish the direction of causality between tattoos and short-sightedness. That is from a new paper by Bradley J. Ruffle and Anne E. Wilson, via the excellent Kevin Lewis.
That's might first instinctive thought, whenever i see such an individual. Second thought on deeper level - why ? (Thinking Fast & Slow) Answer is simple, to satisfy the 7'th need (by Anthony Robins) , the desire to be - significant. The problem is that they choose a shortcut, giving a temporary satisfaction, that can be fulfilled, quite often - by repeating the cycle. Sounds like drugs. Would be nice to see a world-scale study of correlation between drugs and tattooed people. Another thing - creative mind, which is associated with long-term thinking (if we got a visionary/shaper type of person) & higher cognitive ability, - gets bored fast. (downsides, doesn't give enough time for good ideas to play out ; not so goal orientated ) The question is, what can be more boring, than to wake up & to find the same piece of art ( if it was well done, if ) on your body. So, this is stone to my garden & one the worst biases that i have - i see tattooed person ; start to think about their creativeness, short/long term thinking & cognitive ability. Most of the time p.s in future, nano robots under the skin, you choose the concept of tattoo via your mind- those robots form it under your skin. Someone makes nice profits on making it real & traditional tattoo industry is disrupted.
A tattooed chick is an immediate wham bam thank you ma'am from me. Actually I visited a large city recently and learned of a company that does temporary tattoos. I asked her who the customers were since it was expensive and she said celebrities often get them for parties and stuff. Interesting best of both worlds approach She showed me her tattoos winky face
Tattoos are a weird decision. I find them neither good nor bad and I hope to never treat tattooed people differently. But I have an issue with the ones who complain about the negative perceptions they receive. Deluded hypocrits.
