I'm always reading books about TA and the markets, think I'm up to 60 or 70 by now over the past few years. Here's my top-5 for TA:

Murphy, "Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets" - clear, smart, and pretty exhaustive, best place to start if you're new.

Brooks, "Reading Price Charts Bar by Bar" - the dude can't write to save his life, and his terminology is very arcane, but I did get a lot of harsh truths out of it.

Volman "Understanding Price Action" - I forget which member, but somebody recced this a few weeks ago in the Al Brooks thread, so I ordered it and thought it was great. Smart on the idea of needing to wait for price action "buildup."

Corbitt "All About Candlestick Charting" - another clear and exhaustive book focused on candle patterns

Leibovit "Trader's Book of Volume" - smartest thing I've found on volume

I'm always on the lookout for new books, whether on TA and the markets in general, and I'm desperate for a good book on Intermarket Analysis, especially how the Bond Market affects stocks, so what are some of your favorites?

  2. Are you applying any of this stuff?

  3. Hello Dollardogs,

    This is only my opinion:

I only read the charts in the real time and click the buy and sell button.

If I click buy and sell button 100 times per day or 500 times per week or 2000 times a month, then I do not need to waste any time reading the book, I will know more than the books for sale from the 2000 times clicking within a month.

Ask questions on ET forum or thinking and making a plan is better than reading a book. The books will be lying to me. Because if I am a successful rich trader, why would I waste time writing a book. Only people selling books, is the one who not rich from trading.

You going to spend all that money and time reading all those books and guess what, you still have to click the buy and sell button reading books from people you do not even know make any real money trading or not. Now you have all this books knowledge and you will take forever to apply it and know what works. That is nearly 3000 pages of reading you have to apply as a human being. You will be nearly 100 years old before you know what works from the books you read.

It is smarter to stare at the chart and create your own book on trading atleast you know your book is not a lie.

Reading books on trading is a lie. I doubt the Pit Traders read books on trading.

  6. Hello Dollardogs,

Atleast you have a million dollars now.

You have to be VERY smart in this trading industry.

And to be smart, you have to know what a lie looks like first.

I love Volman's books also. And a 1000% easier to understand than Al Brooks material. lol

Can't say I endorse or recommend any of the following books, but they all deal with intermarket analysis (to a varying degree).
    • Intermarket Technical Analysis - Trading Strategies for the Global Stock, Bond, Commodity, and Currency Markets (1991)
    • Intermarket Trading Strategies (2009)
    • Intermarket Analysis - Profiting from Global Market Relationships (2004)
    • Trading with Intermarket Analysis - A Visual Approach to Beating the Financial Markets Using Exchange-Traded Funds (2012)
    • Trend Forecasting with Technical Analysis - Unleashing the Hidden Power of Intermarket Analysis to Beat the Market (2000)
    • Trend Forecasting with Intermarket Analysis - Predicting Global Markets with Technical Analysis (2008)
    • Currency Trading and Intermarket Analysis - How to Profit from the Shifting Currents in Global Markets (2009)
    • Forex Trading Using Intermarket Analysis (2006)
