Switch for multiple monitors

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by salamanderforex, Aug 21, 2020.

  1. Can someone link to any device that allows *extending to multiple monitors without actually install more display cards? I have a laptop that I want to use with 8 monitors and a desktop as well...Is there such a thing as a display switch that is external and connects to USB-C for example or even HDMI port and extends it (not looking for mirroring).

    Thanks,

If you want 8 monitors you wil need 8 monitor outputs.

One USB-C connection can output to 2 monitors, HDMI to just one.

There are no devices that magically increase the number of connections that your laptop/pc has, there are USB videocards but they have lagg.

Some allow daisy chaining. The intel NUC pc will run 6 monitors daisy chained off each other.

USB Video Cards will be fine for Charts, too laggy for Gaming but charts not a huge issue, less data being sent, think you can get 4 outputs per device.

Go to a decent computer store and tell them what you want to do and some may even show you a real multiple monitor setup for you if you buy what they setup. Others will come to your home and configure it for you with no more than $100 extra dollar charge (e.g. Best Buy).

I've seen 8 monitors before in a computer store (FutureShop before they went out of business many years ago) but I'm not sure how they set it up.

Videotron had a 16 monitor setup but freaked out when I started asking questions about the hardware / configuration when I was returning new cable equipment that was defective. Yet, I did notice a display hub and whatever computer they had running all of it...very quiet.

Why don't you buy one or two huge 4K or Ultra Wide monitor and divide screen area into 4 or 8? You cannot avoid all the cable mess up with 8 monitors.
