“This isn’t a shanty town in India. This is Oakland, CA. The crisis of our generation.”
    Susan Sarandon

Actually Susan, the results you are observing are the direct result of policies you supported for the last 50 years. Look anywhere in the world, including the United States, where the policies she advocates have been implemented and it is always a complete disaster.

The absolute lack of self awareness that these marxists have is stunning.

(KRON) — Veteran Hollywood actress and political activist Susan Sarandon took to Twitter Monday to share a TikTok video showing a stretch of Oakland lined with homeless encampments and trash. The video, which Sarandon reposted from an account belonging to homelessness activist, Thomas Wolf, is shot from what appears to be a car driving along streets lined with tents, makeshift structures, discarded furniture and piles of trash.

Push to convert empty SF offices into housing
There are no people visible in any of the shots and the only sound in the video is of the car’s engine.

Sarandon’s post has no caption, but the original post reads “This isn’t a shanty town in India. This is Oakland, CA. The crisis of our generation.”

Sarandon, a one-time Hollywood A-lister who starred in “Thelma & Louise,” “Dead Man Walking” and “The Witches of Eastwick,” among other films, has attracted attention in recent years for her political activity. In 2018, she was among hundreds of women arrested in immigration protests that took place across the country.

The odds of getting stabbed or shot in an Indian shantytown are far lower than SF or Oakland. FYI

  3. Guess she is a big supporter of Ronald Reagan, because he's the one who de-institutionalized the mentally ill.

Liberals seem to always blame past administrations for their own failures, particularly past Republican administrations. 3 times in the last 2 years I heard someone fault Ronald Reagan for the current deterioration, decay and homelessness in California. It’s as if to say the policies from some 50 years ago are the main culprit and we were powerless to reverse, change or modify any of those policies throughout our tenure of Liberal Big Government Socialism and therefor are completely innocent.

  5. Well...getting rid of those big government socialist mental institutions was supposed to be all about promoting freedom. Those people would pick themselves by their bootstraps and charity would help who couldn't help themselves so that they wouldn't end up on the streets. How's that working out?

  6. A lot of people on the streets are there by choice. They like to drink and the like to drug.

I mean, if you are a complete drug addict, where you expect to end up at? On Wall Street?

I live north of Oakland (Berkeley) and the political leadership of Oakland & SF are a disaster. In comparison Berkeley isn't too bad but the homelessness has gotten worse all over the bay area.

SF especially has a lot of problem areas like the Tenderloin which has really become dangerous due to all the open drug dealing on the streets. Then you still have all the "smash & grab" crimes in the city. I think the main issue is still that WFH has basically hollowed out the downtown areas in SF & Oakland.

Never considered the impact of WFH.

Another thing that affects SF especially is the lack of a regular night life. Boston, Miami & NYC also are effected by the WFH phenomenon but those cities have a vibrant night life so there is a reason to live in downtown even if you do WFH.

SF essentially closes at 10-11 PM. The few clubs that were around pretty much went under in 2020 due to the lock downs. So if you worked in the Financial District (mainly Embarcadero) and now you can work from home there is no reason to go into the city or even live there anymore. I have a friend who works as a mortgage broker in the City and he's only been back at work about 20 days since March 2020.

Hey Turd Magnet, Ronald Reagan hasnt been in office in almost 35 years. This was not a problem when he left office. In fact, crime and the general demise of the inner cities in the US reversed and the cities got better during his tenure.

So according to you, Ronald Reagan took an action in the 1980s and its result was not felt until the 2020s. That is one hell of a delayed reaction.

I think a more likely explanation is you are completely full of shit.
