Buy DAS, the trading software company. IB TWS is great for swing, position trading and investing. For daytrading I find it difficult to deal with as its not as fast and dynamic like DAS, the loss of flexbility and speed can cost me a lot so I pay for DAS for IB. Java is not known for its speed but daytraders are But if DAS were to be offered to directly IB clients, then IB would be just unbeatable as a daytrading broker. Right now traders have to pay $150 a month or so in order to get it, I bet a lot of people end up not paying for it because they dont want to deal with the costs and they might be end up using other retail brokers with more dynamic platforms (perhaps TDAmeritrade or Etrade). Furthermore a lot of smaller brokers have DAS as their main trading platform offered to clients (for a cost), by buying them you would deprive them off that opportunity. So you would hurt the competition. IB is a $21B company with $6B in net current assets in the balance sheet, it would be a drop in the bucket for your company to buy them.
Is DAS offered with any other retail broker? Any prop firms offering them? Somehow I get the feeling IB is not trying to attract day traders. Everyone is trying to attract the "dumb" orderflow (people who don't care about plus/minus a few cents or rebates or speed) and serious day traders doing volume are usually not in that category, imho.
Why interactive only and WHY DAS?. Its a sh*&tty platform for day traders compare to other such as Lightspeed, Takion which are tailor made for day trading. DAS order customization is very bad,Ticker stuck every day before close(2-3 min before) and 2 min after opening. Better to go with Lightspeed. Excellent software, excellent execution speed, excellent charts (load almost immediately), way better commission rates than interactive or most other. IMO
Why not write a letter to them, and send it to their HQ, instead of posting it here, where Petterfy, or whatever his name is, will never see it? *sighs* Do kids these days not know how to actually write letters and send them to people through the mail?
