I have a laptop and a desktop with both the same Samsung SSD 860 EVO. After doing a benchmark test with Magician I saw completely other results between the 2 SSD's. I have no clue why one is 70% faster than the second one. Theuy have both the same settings. Can someone explain the reason?
This is a 20% delta in CPU clock speed. Another possible reason is that the laptop may throttle if the battery is low.
The laptop is always connected to the electricity net. Never works on battery. Settings are always on turbo, no throttle, no energy savings apps. The CPU can have an influence. But what is strange is that at start the laptop also had the high speeds. I unfortunatelly don't have these values anymore.
I know but it is the same technology. Only the size is different. Or are 250Gb much faster than 500Gb? And the 500Gb was in the beginning much faster than now. I will contact Samsung.
Maybe the ram is affecting it. side note, I just got ssd drives installed on my trading desktop. What a difference from the HDDs! processing 150k rows between excel and Sql server would take hours, now takes 15 min.
Your desktop is bottlenecked. Laptop results look normal. If you really have time to spare you can troubleshoot to see why. Check is other stuff writing to disk. One way is to do boot into safe mode and then run the benchmark again on your desktop
Was thinking about the ram too. I should test both SSD's on the same PC, but that's impossible as W10 is configered on different hardware.
