Stop blaming black parents for underachieving kids

Mayors, teachers unions, and news commentators have boiled down the academic achievement gap between white and black students to one root cause: parents. Even black leaders and barbershop chatter target “lazy parents” for academic failure in their communities, dismissing the complex web of obstacles that assault urban students daily. In 2011, then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg exemplified this thinking by saying, “Unfortunately, there are some parents who…never had a formal education and they don’t understand the value of an education.” Earlier this year, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Tony Norman diagnosed that city’s public schools’ chief problem: the lack of “active, radical involvement of every parent.” And even President Obama rued last week that in some black communities, gaining education is viewed as “acting white.” more . . .

  2. More excuse making from black activists. To try and say that 7 in 10 cases black children are being raised without a father present does no significant harm is patently absurd. To claim that children born to early teenage mothers, where grandma hasn't had het 30th birthday has no impact is ludicrous.

Exactly .... it's 72-74% without a father. Wonder how they'll turn this fact/statistic and try to dispute it.

I see it day in and day out .... parents that have no interest in their kids education. And don't offer any help with homework. The #1 problem is with 99.99% certainty due to the home life of these kids.

    Chris Rock said it best:

"If the kid call his grand mama "mommy" and his mommy "Pam", he goin' to jail! You aint savin' college money, you savin' bail money! That money goin' to Johnnie Cochran!"

(and then, to his cousin) "If ya said something more to your kid than "mommy be back" he might learn something!"

  8. Activists crying for more money, more programs, more of everything, completely ignore the fact that billions of dollars over multiple decades have been poured into the black communities around the nation. Billions for education. Billions for housing. Billions in all types of aid. Hundreds of millions spent on anti gang, anti crime programs. One group after another trying to reach out and help, all to no avail.
The problem is the total meltdown of the family structure in the black community. This is the result of the black male not sticking around after he impregnates his girlfriend and the black woman seeing child birth as a career path towards a lifetime government check. The kids are out in the street by age 5, and that's no B.S. Not an exaggeration at all. By the time they're 8-10 they are hardened criminals, lost to the violence of the street. The most dangerous people you can run into are the young bloods looking to make their bones working up through the gang ranks. This is why job programs don't work. By the time they're old enough for any type of employment they have already tasted the fast money of the street, assuming they're still alive.
The only fix will be an inside job and to date the overwhelming majority of inner city blacks show no interest in that.

Yep. Every little black girl dreams of growing up to be a welfare mom on the government dole with a houseful of kids. And every little black boy dreams of growing up to be a crackhead gang member. What better life can one imagine for oneself.

    It's the American dream.

  10. What's your point? The idiotic leftist argument that this isn't what a 5 year old kid want for themselves? Well, no shit. It's not about what they want, it's about the reality that they face. There are no parents to guide them. To protect them. To do anything for them. They are cast off into the street and the gang becomes the family. By the time they're old enough to make choices they make the same bad choices their "biological" parents made. The cycle repeats itself. Throwing money at it does not work, as evidenced by decades of failure. Some race baiting activist telling them they have no accountability to the children they create, which is essentially what the article was about, simply creates the excuse they're looking for. The idiot leftist will says in the absence of actual parents, the school system, the state itself must become the parent. Total nonsense. Can't work. Hasn't worked. Won't work.
Black man wants to know the source of the problem all he needs to do is look in the mirror. They are their own worst enemies.
