Can I short Citi ("C")? Not that it's overpriced or anything, but it has such a crappy service. Their fraud prevention and verification process are a nightmare. For instance, if you get flagged for a possible fraud after making a purchase, not only do they decline your purchase but they will lock your card and you'll need to wait until you get a lettter via snail mail and then call their crappy customer support rep to have your card unlocked. But here's the real kicker. Whenever they want to verify your identiry, for whatever reason, they initially say they want to send you an SMS to your phone number. But the damn message NEVER comes through. When you tell them you're not receiving the message, they would ask if you have another phone number, but you think to yourself "wait, is that even safe?" So when you say no, they would quietly flag your card as fraudulent and lock it from further use. And, again, the only way to verify yourself is to wait for their verification letter to arrive through snail mail that takes up to 10 business days. Just how the heck does this make any sense in this day and age of AI? Take a peek at all the complaints among many others on this Reddit thread:
And you can clearly see this reflected in its chart as well. While its competitors like JP Morgan Chase and Capital One have shot back up from the trenches since 2008 GFC, Citi has been in a rut. Well, not at all surprising there. But it's worth noting that if the economy falls into a recession, which I'm pretty damn sure will, this stock will get hit the hardest compared to others.
I grabbed the stock when it was cheap... Good consistent stock dividend and good for covered calls (never gets called away...Like BP). I carry two credit cards and an ATM card... If one gets declined, I'm good with the others...
I think that you are trading on emotional reasons and somehow trying to get revenge on Citi by shorting their stock. The only good reason to short a stock is if it is overpriced. Lots of companies have great customer service (e.g. Southwest), but can't make money.
daum sure isn't using "they's" brain cause the whole time it was going down all "they" did was bitch about trump instead of taking action and going to cash or shorting something. but that's what happens when investors think of themselves as being a trader. this is elite traders not elite politics or elite investors but fucking morons don't know the difference.
When this happens, retrying normally works (at least for me). If the message for two-factor authentication never gets to you, it might be your phone or carrier that is blocking those texts.
I ain't talking about 2FA, like signing into your account. That works fine. It's when you call customer service, especially when dealing with their notorious "fraud prevention" team, and they ask that you follow up to their text message for verification you run into this problem. Anyway, I don't use Citi no more, so I have no regrets.
