Stock Trading Slumps, But Bonds May Save the Day -- Market Talk

Today 9:47 AM ET (Dow Jones)
09:47 ET - Stock traders at banks aren't enjoying the recent market highs as much as investors. Equity trading revenue at US banks fell 13% in 2016, according a WSJ story this morning. Meanwhile, analysts at Goldman Sachs says today that equity trading for the 1Q will likely fall another 1% due to subdued volatility. Bond traders though will likely make up for the weakness--fixed-income, currencies and commodities trading is expected to rise 20% for the quarter, driven by strong corporate debt issuance and interest-rate trading activity, Goldman says.
