you got it. trend is your friend. if you dont hold positions over night who cares what the stock vs. sector is doing. this is kind of bullshit people start looking at and complicate trading. follow the trend. if you are swing trading also i dont think it matters much. dont try to get cute with this. just follow what the stock is doing(considering u play intrday only).
