Solar investment opinion

  1. investing in solar stocks seems to be attractive these days, it is just my personal opinion, due to following reasons:
-fossil fuels are becoming harder and more expensive to obtain
-solar energy usage has been increasing by 100%-s percent since 2010.
-compared to failed EV initiative by GM in 1980, most of the manufacturers are pushing for cars that are either hybrid and electric and momentum is unstoppable now.
    - solar energy is practically limitless compared to fossil fuels which requires millions of years to form.
green cars are much more abundant these days.

That is not to say there are negatives:
-solar energy is inconsistent (can not supply energy during night), and battery technology for cash energy is immature
    -solar installation is expensive
-solar panels are high maintenance and low efficiency.

If technology improves to solve the negatives, I see next decade will be a great time to invest in solar stocks. What do you think?

I find it very easy to find fossil fuels. I think large companies can find them with ease also.

I dont think increasing usage in the past makes this a great investment for the future.

ecar momentum not related to solar.

limitless solar energy does not make it a good investment.

I keep my fingers on the pulse of the business some but have a tough time holding on as I cant value the future in this area well.

  3. although your opinions and position is mostly contradicts mine, I do encourage healthy debate and explore the possibilities and impossibilities.

Not sure how you hold this views nowadays.
do you explore and find fossil fuel yourself? Check the latest report just one example:
    http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...terly-profit-significantly-below-expectations

solar energy and ev-s will have a connection and starting to have. example solarcity and tesla in which, solarcity providing battery to tesla etc., many superchargers are solar powered.

now this part i agree with you of resource (solar energy itself) is unlimited and free and it can not make a good investment. /How can business make a money if fuel itself is free and abundant?/ but i think companies can always make it monetize (installation, panel and maintenance etc,m) as long as the solar energy cost to end user is competitive to the fossil fuel and they can increase by margin by reducing the cost of solar panel and increasing the efficiency etc., that is exactly where solar industry is trying to make sustainable business model.

I drive up the road, open my wallet, pull out a card, put it in the machine, boom, fossil fuels come out.

What do you KNOW about solar?

  5. not much just amateur. I thought you might have your own exploration company :D

  6. solar city stock has upside

anything elon musk is associated with gives at least a 100% return

this guy is like king midas

  7. i think i saw on eia.gov or somewhere, solar energy accounts for meager less than 1% of output. however since 2010, the output was grown by huge in terms of percentage compared to others. Not sure if trend can continue. That is biggie.

I understand solar from having a system and I understand electric cars from following the ecar company.

SCTY has some great characteristics. The block for me is that I want to be able to justify a future price based upon future sales. I can't analyze SCTY or any solar company and come up with my own price target based upon expanding P/E. So for me, the block is one of not fully understanding things. If I bought now it would be with incomplete knowledge subject to the emotional whims of the whips and the saws.

If you are interested in SCTY just this week because of the SCTY break out, you are just a chart monkey (I think some people call themselves technical traders). I am much more of an investor.

  9. Scty has been "broken" many times before. U assumed I am a chart investor /which I never said i am anywhere in theis thread nor I am/ following by some weird monkey term yet u just blurted out bunch of technicals which u mentioned u can not even make sense when used against those companies. So real monkey good seems to be you with some imaginative skills. Saying that I'd rather bring the topic back to what I wanted to discuss so if u re here to make yourself known as real investor u re in wrong place.

If you are not interested in SCTY this week then ignore what I say.
