Some on the City Council want to ban the sales of miniature liquor bottles within city limits, and the council debated the matter Monday evening.

Supporters of the ban argue the mini bottles litter streets and encourage drinking and driving, but those opposed to the ban say * may be overreaching its government hands.

"The city is pushing the customer to buy the bigger bottle," said *, whose family owns a chain of liquor stores.

She says 15 to 20 percent of her business comes from miniature liquor bottle sales, and says she's worried about the hit on her business if the ban passes.

She was one of many who sounded off at Monday night's public hearing with the City Council.

Supporters say a ban would cut down on litter and drunk drivers, who they say wouldn't be able to conceal the drinks in their cars or other beverages so easily.

But those who oppose the ban flipped the litter argument around on supporters.

"Is this government impeding too much?" said one person who attended the meeting. "What's next? If I see dog poop, are we going to pass an ordinance that prohibits dogs?"

Interesting that in your copy/paste of this article you purposely excluded the town from the original article...Sante Fe, NM's most liberal city. Looks like Democrap overreach.

Contrary to Judy's hyperventilating, this has nothing to do with conservative/libertarians - just another dishonest debate from the left.

Actually it has everything to do with conservatives and libertarians and the work they do to invade the lives of women, non-Christians, minorities et al. The particular city was irrelevant.

Liberal logic: Dem city council = Libs/conservatives

No doubt another one of his "straight line" analyses.

I don't expect you to actually admit it. But it's ok, you don't have to.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that voters have chosen its first openly gay mayor, Democrat Javier Gonzales.

Gonzales won easily over two opponents, and will now preside over an eight member city council on which two of the members are lesbian, Patti Bushee, who was one of his mayoral opponents and the newly elected Signe Lindell. Bill Dimas, who was Gonzales other mayoral opponent remains on the city council as well.

    ------

Since in office Mayor Gonzales has spent an inordinate amount of time driving the gay agenda including hosting large gay pride events.
