Yes you heard that right nike just bought a company that makes nfts and digital sneakers for the metaverse.. this fad is really really really getting ridiculously stupid right now. The stories go on and on as people keep believing nfts and the metaverse are going to be the next universe we all live and play in. In order to hype it up they have to create these headlines and keep the fad going to create an asset class that they hope can live and thrive one day. That's why we keep hearing about this metaverse. A month ago no one had any idea what the metaverse was, today people are paying millions and millions to obtain virtual real estate. This is nothing but a fad to bring people into the hype. Yes we will have another artificial world where people go, but stop with the hype and stupidity of what it will be. Nike just bought a virtual shoe company that makes NFTs and sneakers ‘for the metaverse’ RTFKT makes shoes too, except these only exist digitally https://www.theverge.com/22833369/nike-rtfkt-nft-sneaker-shoe-metaverse-company
No, no we need all that! As far as Nike getting on this trend, I think it’s a good move. You will see popular virtual designs spill over into real world. Just another way to market your products.
Way I see it is people were very dismissive of the internet 20 years ago in the same way. Therefore I think it prudent to add a small portion of my portfolio into these projects and see what happens.
I actually think the metaverse is going to be a big thing. A few months ago I tried out some virtual reality googles and found it hugely entertaining. I am certain that the first company that develops entertaining virtual reality movies will completely kill traditional movies. It would just be far more entertaining. If you think about life now, millions of people spend at least 12 hours per day in front of digital screens. That number is probably growing with every passing month. One could argue that if you were able to create these digital "metaverse worlds", those people who are currently spending 12 hours per day staring at screens will almost certainly be willing to spend that time "inside" their screens in a more immersive environment. If the technology is there to make it seamless, then it is going to happen. It just make sense. Think about the huge Japanese anime culture. Are you telling me those types of people are not going to be all over the metaverse? They will be all over it. Now, will Nike be able to sell $120 digital sneakers for people to "wear" on their hologram selves in digital worlds? I have no idea. I think there will be some market for it. The bigger question is cultural and societal. Is it harmful to the world to have people spending 18 hours per day wearing virtual reality goggles? Are these fulfilling lives? Is this how we are intended to live? I would argue to that question, is most certainly "no".
second life gone mainstream. Now with more buzzwords https://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/19/technology/19virtual.html
Sounds like they want to create a real world like the movie Ready Player One. You can believe many people will buy into that hype though.
Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it stupid. NFTs are the future and just about everything we do is digital now. Either learn to adapt or get left in the dust...
