I've been trying different methods in simulation but I prefer selling. I rarely have a long position, as I feel the market will plummet on any given day for whatever reason. I feel more comfortable selling than buying. Is there a single trading style you use more often than others?
It's OK to have a favourite setup, but I'd encourage you to get comfortable with longs as well as shorts, otherwise you'll be missing many opportunities. Having a feeling that the market will plummet isn't a rational reason to have a short bias! Personally, I find there are periods where a particular setup comes into play more than others, but this changes depending on conditions.
Since you just lost $4700 in sim, it should be clear that what you feel isn't particularly pertinent. If you haven't tested your supposition, look forward to continued losses. If and when you do test it, you'll be in a better position to make a decision as to what path to follow.
You saying your trade strategy only spits out "short signals" or you saying lately your bias has been bearish on whatever you're trading ? I suspect most likely the latter and such is common place for traders to have a strong bias about a particular direction in the markets for a day, week, month or year or several years. Simply, you're ignoring your bullish signals and just executing your bearish signals. Also, you used the word "markets". If you're talking about the general U.S. indices like the Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq and Russell...they've been going higher for some time now while many traders have been calling it a top or overbought since January 2013. Yeah, eventually their bias will be right but hopefully they haven't been ignoring their bullish signals just because they have a strong bearish bias.
I am newbie in trading field please provide information about which type of trading strategy is beneficial for beginners.
