Luckily we don't listen to others but we do our own analysis. big picture / past few years It is a rather strong company. medium picture / past few months chart showed price is in close wedge formation. And it will be in close wedge formation until the chart says otherwise. Also past few months, there were few days (about 3 days) where TIF was suitable for day trading.
It is under 50 MA and it is about to cross under the 20 MA, the wedge will move, by earnings - guess which way? Stores are closed (at least in CA, where there is a lot of money to buy bling-bling...) This does not look strong to me...plus the analysts hate it...
Look at the daily chart, TIF lately, the stock has established higher highs and higher lows which is the definition of an uptrend, add to that, it is just slightly below the 200 sma. Once, price crosses above it, indicates the stock is turning bullish. 200 sma is also, sloping upwards. If I was to trade it, I would buy a call option, 2-3 months out ITM and hold it. Your risk is limited to the cost of the premium (on a worst case scenario), the upside is unlimited theoretically. However, you probably, will sell it after a nice run up and huge profits. Indications point to this stock going higher not, lower.
LVMH acquisition of TIF is $135 per share which is the maximum value. Don't use news to trade and just base my decision on the stockcharts so, unaware of the merger. There is only $14 of upside left however, TIF probably, still would drift upwards and move sideways. Knowing what I know now, I would pass on this trade. Not enough reward to make it worth my while.
Lost thousands trying to make monies with credit spreads. Not worth risking thousands to make a couple of hundred? I will risk a couple of hundred to make thousands. That is a better reward to risk equation. I just buy call and put options. Just sold my VXRT calls and made enough to make a profit on top of wiping out 3 other losing trades. Upside is theoretically, unlimited but, we will have to sell and probably, sooner with options. Still have shares on VXRT so, if it runs up, I will still have something riding on it.
