I usually just go by the charts to short stocks...never really look at the fundamentals. However, I was researching whats out there in regards to computers and it appears to me that INTELs I7 processor is going to wipe AMD off the map. There is simply nothing faster out there then this processor and it puts computing into the next dimension. I am reading that INTC plans to introduce further revisions of this processor next year which will be faster/better. In looking at this chart, I dont see AMD at the top: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html I think AMD is just about done. If it starts freefalling, then Im there on the short.
That is not exactly todays news. It is no secret that the i7 beats anything that AMD has to offer. Though "putting computing into the next dimension" is overstating the case just a wee bit. However in the lower to mid performance market (which is where the great bulk of CPUs are sold), AMD is well in the race in terms of price/performance. Also AMD has just released a quad core CPU for less than $100. You can't get that from Intel - yet! And the new Radeon graphics cards seem to be a big hit. I think you should step up your research efforts.
Exactly what I was going to say. Price to performance AMD is still very competitive. I was there when AMD came from nothing to compete with Intel in the race to 1 GHz. Back then Intel was slowing upgrading their processor speeds and charging lots of money for it. All of a sudden AMD comes along and gives it some competition. National Semi(or some other) got wiped out in the process and the rest is history for AMD and Intel. AMD will be here to stay if that Mexican fuckhead CEO doesn't ruin things. Jerry Sanders had it together. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oorv3FDOUPY Plus they still have ATI. EDIT: Nevermind Hector Ruiz is no longer the CEO having stepped down. I haven't heard anything about the new guy.
