A few days ago I was having a conversation with some buddies, and we overheard a few coworkers next to us talking about a shadow room bust. We asked them out of curiosity, what they said was rather interesting. Allegedly, Shadow Rooms are created by individuals, using the anonymous nature of the internet to pass insider information to each other. Members of shadow rooms are invited only if they have access to unique information. For example, if a "room" is started by two people working in abc large cap company, they invite two more working large cap b company. Using IRC or obscure websites, they exchange insider information. Since members of these "rooms" dont know any of the members aside from the person who invited them, the entire situation remains mostly anonymous. Rooms are situated such that there is always someone who has new information to share. Members are encouraged to trade either randomly or in a pattern on such news, so that it is much harder to discern the group from normal trading activities. These rooms are created for one purpose, and that is to use the internet to create anonymous groups of people that can trade on information supplied by others and at the same time spreading your own information anonymously.

Anyone else hear about such rooms or similar things?
