A slow motion murder in the streets of Bogota a couple of night ago. Cops emboldened by the right wing authoritarian government, taser a man to death. Then seven people were killed by police live fire in following protests. https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...p-bogotoa-after-death-man-detained-by-police/
That guy is lucky they did not put a knee on his neck, bag with no breathing holes on his head or use paramedics to inject him with a lethal dose of medication because the police say he had excited delirium or resisting arrest. Had the police done that...a jury would say its justifiable. wrbtrader
Yes cartels have been executing people and extremist paramilitary organizations run the country yet THIS ONE TIME the people have had enough. Lmao Columbia is a train wreck.
Tasering a lawyer to death (slowly) in the street is pretty extreme really. The cartels are invisible for the most part, they rarely kill someone not in the business, the issue at the moment is police need to be calmed down. Covid has caused a lot of stress, some authoratarian pols are pushing it. Colombia is South Americans most stable democracy despite appearances. There are no trains in Colombia anymore so it's not that. But you would know about the big bad world my little mallninja
The victim was begging for them to stop, just like Floyd. Sick mentality on display by the “officers” here.
I don't think "defund the police" has got it quite right. "Disarm the Police" makes more sense. Let's let them go on maintaining law and order, but for god sake, let's not let them anywhere near weapons, because they've shown themselves to be incapable of the judgement needed to use them. As a matter of fact, in either Tijuana or Juarez, I forget which, the police were disarmed, and the murder rate plummeted -- Google it!
I don't know how to completely solve the problem, but this is a pretty awful idea. With all the guns in this country and not having adequate resources to defend themselves against an armed suspect, a lot more police will be killed.
Possibly less would be an improvement. They seem to be very good at avoiding contact with "armed suspects." And even without conventional weapons they still have knees. A "nice" number to compare. The number police killed last year compared to the number of police killed. Also the number of police murders caught on body cam, another "nice" statistic.
You appear to have very limited knowledge of the situation in Mexico. While some localities have "disarmed" the local police and only allow them to do traffic duty -- this was due to their alignment with drug cartels and effectively being "agents" of the cartel rather than the government. To replace these local "police" the Mexican government sent in the national police and military. The murder rate dropped because the Mexican "Feds" are driving around in pick-up trucks with roll-bars with machine guns mounted on them. This eliminated the "drug wars" in the cities but merely pushed the violence out to the rural country-side. Go work in a place like Monterrey to see all this government presence in person. In some areas of Mexico the cities are "owned" by the government and the country-side is "owned" by the cartels. Sounds similar to Afghanistan in many ways.
Yep, Bogota cops are savage little fellas but the local mayors and government are hiring cops instead of spending money on social programs that work. This is a problem. Its a bit like New Orleans, you don't really see cops and when you do, its trouble. To give some perspective, nobody is afraid of cops here, they are corrupt and a bit useless but you can ask them a question safe enough. My daughter was downtown in Medellin last night having a look. They commonly use horses which are extremely effective in crowd control but there was one cop on a donkey who was mental hitting people. I think he was given the donkey losing a bet and was very cross Nobody gives a shit, not that they don't care and won't be putting pressure on but they are not fearful people obviously which is nice. Anyway, off to mother-in-law birthday.
