Seeking Mentors

  1. After many years reading threads about seeking mentors, I think ET/Baron should have a forum particularly designed for seeking mentors. It has a practical value/need!

I think it's just similar to the existing Journals or Classifieds on ET. Some other investing/trading sites also have Job related forums (basically for fresh graduates, I guess).

After reading/learning the below thread, I think its suggested format is probably a good example to follow, indeed:

That means a potential mentor would have to perform some trading with a seeker's own simulation account for a certain period of time for a proof/demonstration of capability.

A seeker should have several sub-accounts (to be carried our trading simulation by individual potential mentors) for simulated trading purpose. Perhaps ET could help seekers to arrange this kind of set up with some ET sponsors.

The successful mentor(s) finally got the job of each thread could be perhaps disclosed/mentioned for others to know as well. My guess accordingly is a fade mentor cannot cheat others in long run, because a genuine seeker could openly report the simulation performance of a potential mentor in a thread eventually.

If ET could facilitate/establish this kind of protocol/bridge between seekers and mentors, that would be a valuable contribution to the trading field, I think.

Of course a very primitive idea! Just 2 cents!

  2. Its called being a sponsor.

  3. Possibly both the seekers and potential mentors must be paid members (with a special sponsorship only for the month) in order to join this special forum.

Yeah, there would definitely need to be some pre-qualification or constraints in place to keep everybody and their brother from suddenly saying they are a mentor.

I hear ya Baron. But like you said in the other thread...people looking for help/advice need to put in the time in. Research on here and find people/poster they enjoy reading and want feedback from. The people who come on here and post a one sentence thread starter that say "Tall me how to make money trading" should get thrashed on here.

To me paying someone to be a mentor is a slippery slope.

  6. Could you post links to these "threads about seeking mentors".

IMO ...... Those threads are a rarity and meaningful threads even rarer, a Mentor forum will be inactive. There is already enough forums that someone can post any mentor questions in.

LOL, the thought of unbridled jerkoffs who cant trade, providing "mentorship" makes me think of the movie "Pain and Gain" I can just imagine the kind of people who would flock to that if you allowed it to go unmoderated.

For those who havent seen pain and gain, it doesnt end well for the mentor. :D
