Schumer says Senate will vote by Jan. 17 on changing rules if GOP continues to block voting rights legislation Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) told colleagues Monday that the chamber would vote no later than the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on changing Senate rules if Republicans continue to block voting rights legislation...... With Republicans unified against Democrats’ plans, the only way to pass legislation is to alter Senate filibuster rules. That would mean all 50 Democrats uniting in favor of both a rule change and underlying legislation. ___________________________________ Be careful. What comes around goes around.
Chuck Schumer on the filibuster in 2017: If you can't get 60 votes, 'you shouldn't change the rules' The top Democrat once called the filibuster 'the most important distinction between the Senate and the House' Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., indicated that he would lead the effort to peel back the filibuster after previously being a staunch defender of the 60-vote Senate rule as minority leader Read more at https://www.foxnews.com/media/chuck-schumer-filibuster-flashback-2017
Senators Joe Machin and Kyrsten Sinema have the real power. Chuck Schumer is an arrogant twit and nothing more. Let them vote on it. It will be one more loss for Democrats to swallow. Extreme liberal Democrats acting like the cry babies they are when they do not get their way.
Get rid of the filibuster entirely! The whole thing is a scam to give senators veto powers they were never intended to have. The constitution already identifies matters that need more than majority votes in the senate.
As I've said, the Democrats know they are about to lose power and simply want the money grab to lock in multitudes of "programs" that cannot be easily unwound by subsequent administrations or Congress. They don't care about consequences of removing the filibuster. Its only about that money now and they will do *anything* to get it.
Bullshit. The filibuster has turned into the biggest scam in American government. As I have said repeatedly, I would be for ending it entirely if the republicans had total control of government too. The senate is not supposed to be dead weight and it’s not supposed to be as partisan as the house. It’s defined and limited numbers is what makes it deliberative, not the filibuster. End it now! It is imply the worst thing in government.
Indeed. The biggest scam about it imo is that republicans can pass thier top priority with the filibuster in place while democrats can't(tax cuts). If Republicans couldnt cut taxes with the filibuster in place they would have ended it a long time ago.
