Is Sam Bankman-Fried the largest loser of all times ? Yes, according to this sheet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_trading_losses and other sources like https://www.newtraderu.com/2013/08/06/twelve-of-the-biggest-trading-losses-in-history/ and https://seekingalpha.com/article/61755-the-20-largest-trading-losses-in-history But in history there has been (only some) larger failures according here: https://commodity.com/blog/biggest-lost-fortunes/ This is not about the news on failed latest crypto billionaire, more a discussion about the largest trading losses. Why they did happen ? (only some failed risk management or more organized fraud ?) What were the circumstances around them and other topics. Anyone knows here something is invited to contribute as it can get interesting.
In case it gets modified or vanished here are the screenshots from wiki largest trading losses reported.
Also the opposite (the largest trading gains in history) is quite interesting and what to learn from ? %% JD Rockefeller had a real interesting childhood. His mom taught him ''willful waste makes woeful want'' He taught Sunday School, but sounds like a serous error of his -- ''competition is a sin'' JD had to do chores @ home , also sold turkeys , candy, potatoes + lending money to neighbors. He later said ''from the beginning I was taught to work, to save, to give.'' He was also into rail cars, iron ore. Without the judgement of his wife , JD said ''I would be a poor man'' Sounds like he did more for USA than all the talking snake media of his day, combined ; which did cartoons of him as a high crowned king .
For SBF to be the biggest loser of all time, this would require his assets to have been legit. But they turned out to be fake... I am surprised to not see Bill Hwang on the list...
You know, now that I think of it. Hwang lost 20 billion in only 48 hours... SBF only has a hole of 10 billion or so missing in the balance sheets. This makes Hwang still the 2x the king of losses. However, I am willing to bet there may be just as many charges (or 2x as much) laid against SBF than Hwang got. What do you think?
Jesse Livermore lost several fortunes...dude was easily a billionaire equivalent for his time and got smoked to the point of suicide Imagine going from billionaire to broke...I lose a couple thousand and ready to leave my truck idling in the garage with the doors shut.
Just imagine...By the year 2050, when all cars/trucks are electric and all the ICE clunkers no longer function, that suicide method will no longer be an option. What a sad state of affairs.
No big loss though. ICE clunkers were never dependable for suicide. Just ask Perigrine's futures-trading boss Wasendorf.
