Yet, he sent his kids to private school? Do these people not know how ridiculous they sound? Or are they hoping that folks are too lazy to look it up?

Let's provide some context. The Republicans in the legislature want to strip school systems across the state of funding, provide public school teachers with substandard pay raises, and use public taxpayer money to send children to fancy private schools.

Fundamentally the Republican state legislature is pushing a traditional conservative plan for public schools. Let's use an earlier quote from one of these conservatives to describe their plan -- "Decent middle-class people should go to private Christian schools, public schools are for (N-word here) and white trash".

Cooper says GOP teacher pay, voucher plans a public education 'disaster'
The governor will hold public events across the state to call on parents, educators and business leaders to speak against GOP proposals he says would crush public schools and hobble the state's future.

And by the way, Roy Cooper went to public schools in Nash County, North Carolina as did his children while living in Rocky Mount, his oldest daughter graduating high school there. His three daughters graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Yet somehow pundits on the internet claim Roy and his children went to private schools. Let me ask -- was Roy Cooper taking public vouchers to send his children to private schools.

Were tax payer funds used to send his kids to private schools or did he pay himself?

It doesn't sound like hes saying kids shouldn't go to private schools just that money shouldn't be taken from public schools to do so.

    party of personal responsibility everyone.

  5. Private schools are fine.....private...in other words...privately funded by donations and tuition, not taxpayer money. Obviously not everyone can afford private school but if hte government has money to spend for schools then fix the public ones. There is plenty of money when it comes to Ukraine and tax cuts so...

I'm actually not even making the argument for or against school choice in this thread, just pointing out the hypocrisy.

the NPC can try to justify that Cooper sent his kids to public schools during a particular point in his life, but he also sent some of them to private schools (which the NPC ignores to mention). And the point is the guy is on video claiming that people should send their kids to public schools.

    Its really that simple.

  8. Well I think we often see the wealthiest politicians screaming for public schools always send their kids to private schools :)

Once again... I will ask for the evidence that Roy Cooper sent his children to private schools. Just because some clown on Twitter claims this -- does not make it true. You can go to Roy Cooper's previous social media posts and see him celebrating the graduation of his oldest daughter from a high school in Rocky Mount.

This internet narrative is amusing --- but nonsense. I will also note taking taxpayer money with vouchers to send your children to private schools is very different than paying for it out of your own pocket.

Roy Cooper went to public schools in Nash County, North Carolina as did his children while living in Rocky Mount, his oldest daughter graduating high school there. His three daughters graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Yet somehow pundits on the internet claim Roy and all his children went to private schools. Let me ask -- was Roy Cooper taking public vouchers to send his children to private schools.
