Rithmic, LLC announced today that its front end trading screen, R | Trader Pro™ now accepts orders placed directly through Microsoft Office Excel.

In June, Rithmic announced that R | Trader Pro™ could easily create spreadsheets and stream real-time market data and orders to the spreadsheets it creates. Now, the real-time market data and orders in those spreadsheets can just as easily be used to create new orders which R | Trader Pro™ picks up and submits to the exchanges through Rithmic's R | Trade Execution Platform™. Without the need for scripting or programming languages, a trader can configure orders to be submitted by a simple mouse click or automate the submission of orders based upon real-time data using “=IF()” statements.

For traders who prefer to write code, look no further than VBA. No longer must a trader learn a third-party scripting language or know C++ or C#. Combined with the vast library of functions that come with Microsoft Office Excel or with the use of third-party commercial indicators compatible with Microsoft Office Excel, a trader can easily implement very sophisticated trading strategies.

“The efficient interface we have developed to Microsoft Office Excel is a great breakthrough for Rithmic and the entire trading community”, said Jonathan Walden, CEO of Rithmic, LLC.

Rithmic is a developer of high performance multi-asset trade execution software. Rithmic's R | Trade Execution Platform™ for trading futures, spreads, equities and options provides highly stable and scalable desktop trading and risk management screens, bi-directional streaming connectivity with Microsoft Office Excel, a C++ API, a .NET API, FIX connectivity, market data and order routing.

If you really want traders to use the Rithmic API you would make the API documentation publicly available.

Is a Rithmic simulator available for API testing?

    Are API code samples available?

Is a Java API in the works?

R | API™ is distributed with its documentation. If you would like a copy please pm me or contact us at sales@rithmic.com.

Rithmic's paper trading environment (our simulator) is available for use with programs that incorporate R | API™ as well as with numerous third party front end trading screens. However, as it uses live market data, exchange rules requires us to restrict access to our paper trading environment to users who have a live funded trading account or, in the absence of such an account, 30 days.

R | API™ is distributed with some code examples.

R | Java API™ is not yet in the works.

You should mention the upgrades to Excel 2013 which make it very competitive with what a programmer can custom build.

Upgrades such as the ability to handle much more data, more compact storage, new web connectivity that truly makes ODBC/OLE from previous versions obsolete.

Too bad you don't have an Options offering. A lot of traders would be all over that.

We do support options trading. Now with the interface to Microsoft Office Excel, a trader can use our market data and Excel's functions to calculate greeks in real-time. Then, as appropriate, orders can be sent back to R | Trader Pro™.

    Oops. Good to know.

Any chance the excel functionality will be available to the vanilla R Trader?

R | Trader™ was originally designed for use by FCM risk managers so they can see the activity of the accounts for which they are responsible and so they can trade on behalf of their account holders when required. As R | Trader™ became popular with the trading community we decided to provide additional features that would be useful to active traders. It seemed best to keep R | Trader™ focused on basic trading functionality for risk managers and traders who do not need additional features. We introduced R | Trader Pro™ to provide active traders with the same functionality as R | Trader™ and to provide charting and additional features as we develop them. Our interface to Microsoft Office Excel is the latest of these additional features.
