Returning to Trading

Discussion in 'Trading' started by marketpro, Nov 1, 2020.

  1. I was a former Prop Trader in 2007, but left the industry and went overseas. thinking about returning to Trading. Any ideas or does anyone have time to talk and discuss where the best opportunities are at? I am a technical price action profitable trader, looking for funding with a generous split and good platform and Tech support. Thx, in advance.

13 years is a long time to be away.
IMHO,at a bare minimum you will have to have decent skin in the game if you are looking for a backer..

I retired from Wall Street in 2002,and "goofed" off until covid kept me off the slopes and from coaching..Im trading full time now and establishing a track record should I choose to manage money..

  3. Thank you for the reponse.....I agree with everything you have said, but I have been teaching trading to a few to sharp.....and some light mentoring......instead of actually trading......are any of these funding programs for real and worth pursuing? I can trade stocks, futures, commodities and currencies.....a chart is a chart for me....I prefer short day trades....but have a great close data strategy.....

As a former prop trader, you should know the answer to these questions, no?

Hop back on your aeroplane and go back overseas. You'll be safer. We got an election going on, man!

  6. I have know several that come back to prop trading after working at firms or taking on other jobs... it always surprises me when they aren't well capitalized to resume prop trading after their transition back to being on their own.

  7. Thx for the response. I didn't mention that I was a profitable Prop trader for 4 years until 2011 then left the biz....and was just looking for input, The biz was different then without these companies with tests periods and funding promise scams...I was juts reading about learn2trade....they got indicted.....wow.....If anyone has any good prop shops that provide funding and leverage ( intraday ) please post. I look to see you all in the markets soon as I have decided to get back in after thinking about all.....and with Covid I can work from home.

Exactly what a legit prop shop will question.

"Prop firms" now fall into 2 categories:
    - The "funded trader" group. They ask you to deposit some money and/or pay a regular fee, and stop you out when your drawdowns approach the amount you paid, and when you win they take a split. Technically they offer leverage in exchange for a portion of the profit. Regular brokers do it for a small fee.
    - The "SMB" type. They now make their money selling courses.
