Republicans Frantic Trump Fans Will Sit Out the Midterms Because They Think All Elections Are Rigged Now: Report https://www.thenewcivilrightsmoveme...ey-think-all-elections-are-rigged-now-report/ According to a report from NBC, Republican campaign consultants and candidates are expressing real concern that GOP turnout in the 2022 midterms will be down because of Donald Trump’s insistence that the 2020 presidential election was rigged which is leading some conservatives to believe it makes no difference if they vote. As candidates at the state level hold town halls looking to improve their chances on the primaries, they are hearing from attendees that they think Trump had the 2020 election stolen from him and are asking why they should bother to come out on election day. According to NBC’s Alan Smith, candidates are being asked if they believe the 2020 election results were bogus and, if they state they see no evidence of fraud, are facing furious pushback from the voters they hope to claim. “One year out of office, and with the midterm elections fast approaching, Trump has accelerated efforts to encourage resistance to the reality of his loss. He told his supporters to “never give up” in a statement on the first anniversary of his supporters’ rioting at the U.S. Capitol in a deadly attempt to block the formalization of Biden’s win,” Smith wrote. “In return, there are signs that his voters’ anger over the 2020 election and their belief in the falsehood that his victory was stolen from him has only grown, even as some in the GOP have said they’d prefer to move on and focus on issues that may resonate with a wider swath of the electorate, like inflation.” That, in turn, the report notes, has some voters claiming they will be staying home. At a rally in Michigan, Gary Taylor, 65, bluntly stated, “Unless we fix what went down — and I voted ever since I was able to vote — I’m pretty well done. I mean, what’s the point? I think the whole damn thing is corrupt.” According to NBC’s Smith, “That sentiment could make a difference in Republicans winning or losing races. In Georgia’s Senate runoff elections in January 2021, constant fraud claims by Trump and his allies were seen to have played a role in dampening GOP turnout enough to have allowed for one — if not both — Democratic victories.” Sherrylyn Young, a Republican candidate for the state Senate in Arizona claims she’s concerned about the lingering threat of a voting boycott. “I think there are a lot of people who are saying it’s rigged and there’s no point in even going out and voting. I hope that doesn’t happen,” she said before adding low turnout might be “enough to swing an election when it comes right down to it.” You can read more here.
The wildcard in this election is how the excess mortality will play out in all districts, democrats and republicans. This is the first true election where will be able to gauge the impact of the lives lost from Covid on the actual body politic. A lot of these districts are built 55/45 to maximize advantage throughout the state(s). And if an area was hit hard enough then that could swing some districts in ways not expected. The issue is that the voter roles and participation data is prior to/or lined up early in the pandemic so a lot of these map makers could be very off.
There was an interesting summary about this about a week ago done by a healthcare policy blogger where they walked through all the math of Covid deaths and its relation to upcoming elections. The summary at the end is: The net gap between Trump & Biden COVID deaths will likely continue to increase somewhat between now and November, but aside from a handful of extremely close races, I doubt that will be enough to make the difference in who ends up winning. And of course there is this additional commentary on the subject. For that matter, even if the "death gap" numbers were significantly higher, it won't mean much if millions of Americans who voted for Biden and/or other Dems in 2020 decide to flip or simply don't show up at all in 2022 because they blame him for the pandemic continuing. As I noted back in September: This is perhaps the most cynical thing I've ever typed in a blog entry, but there's no getting around it: GOP leadership, FOX News, Trump/MAGA etc don't appear to care how many of their own voters die as long as they damage President Biden's approval rating in the process. While I'm sure they'd much rather every person who dies of COVID be a Democrat, losing ~250,000 of their own supporters appears to be a small price to pay if it results in them flipping control of the House and/or Senate next year. At the time, I coached this in grave language to make it clear that this was a shocking statement. Recently, Politico just stated it matter of factly as the GOP's official midterm strategy. So the bottom line is: Q: Why have Republicans seemingly decided that killing their own voters with COVID disinformation is good politics? A: They did the math Challenge Accepted: The Elephant in the Room, now Age-Adjusted https://acasignups.net/22/02/03/challenge-accepted-elephant-room-now-age-adjusted
I think the OP's author is on the wishful thinking camp. Righties are ready to clean house in the midterms and they'll have renewed motivation by the crushing win. No amount of dead antivaxxers will be enough to undo the voter disenfranchisement going on or the disillusioned Dems who'll be sitting it out.
This can work both ways, Democrats and Republicans. I have no doubt democrats will get the proverbial brakes beaten off of them but I will be watching how the new maps perform. I’m not quite convinced Covid will have a zero impact just yet.
Foul.. the Ref(national security state) fouled us...but why? Gov't(sand in your gears) needs a new supply of impractical and resentful people. Doesn't matter red or blue, gov't will co-op your life.
Yeah, what the heck is the new civil rights movement. Does it replace the old civil rights movement or what?
