Guys, friends from the USA, please, answer me this question: Am I wrong to think that you are just being lied to, being presented with the illusion of choice, while decade after decade you are forced to choose between democrats and republicans which just present themselves as the better alternative, but are nothing more than the lesser evil at a specific historical period? From what I am seeing, republicans at the moment appear as just enough repulsive(maybe more) to make me vote for the democrats. Is such an opinion too far into the conspiracy theories? Does it have to be that this phenomenon is coordinated, planned and directed for the outcome of it to be a historically accurate observation? Does it matter if people in power cooperate to make the status quo such as it is? I'd like to hear some thoughts. Or is it more of a reddit question, haha.
Politicians are motivated by big money interests and the extremes who are becoming more and more at odds. I think we’ve actually seen the extremes having a more influential impact than the big money interests lately. We see this with politicians such as AOC and MTG who can rack up small dollar donations from people sharing their illogical ideologies. More moderate people don’t donate much to politicians, because they generally aren’t as interested. The old guard (heavily backed by corporations, wealthy donors, and unions) still has control of Congress, but they are becoming increasingly worried about primaries.
the parties dont care about the voters, they simply care about beating the other side and scaring voters to vote for them....wa the case for many decades but it is just way easier now with social media to get messages out. As soon as any event happens in this country, and we can make a list, both sides already have the political talking point on it that supports their party and blames the other.
Maybe I should educate myself on USA history and politics and try and engage in conversation more after that. Do you know good books on the subject?
there really is not a book and we are talking about 250 years of party politics since the days of Jefferson and Hamilton haha. Roosevelt was the radio president and Kennedy was the TV president. trump/biden are the social media presidents. What do all of them have in common? Image over susbstance. The message/image your portray is way more important than the actual issue. It is too easy to fool and scare voters because we have on average an uninformed electorate who takes whatever is fed to them as well as very smart people with far right and far left ideals affecting what they choose to study. The average U.S. citizen knows nothing about the Constitution or Bill of Rights and maybe 1% of us actually studied it or worked with it. the rest rely on what is fed to them. a populist president (trump) does not get elected unless you have that kind of environment so this is the new age of politics in the U.S. We didnt have message boards or social media like this 20 years ago where the average man could become an influencer even though they know shit. For example, the President is the leader of the EXECUTIVE BRANCH.... not the country...also considered leader of the party but depends who has Congress...big difference but most people dont understand the nuances.
That was a good thing. A political system with extremes leads to conflict and volatility. Now it's gotten bat shit crazy since America doesn't want people in politics who have made a career of managing the political process. They want crazy's who will say crazy things, do crazy things, and have no understanding how the government works. But they are outsiders so it's all cool.
Still, I found some lists I will pick books out of. At first glance I like that one - The Red and the Blue: The 1990s and the Birth of Political Tribalism by Steve Kornacki Mainly because it should count as modern times while still not the present(which is highly distorted by personal agendas). The truth is free after the death of those that lived through it. The lists: https://bookriot.com/must-read-books-about-american-politics/ https://bookauthority.org/books/best-political-history-books
