http://www.politico.com/story/2015/02/ted-cruz-block-loretta-lynch-114863.html The republican senate has shown that it is largely weaponless to combat Obama's amnesty and other over the top executive actions. (Even the leftwing Washington Post has criticized the president's claim of authority on amnesty). They can't pass any bills because of democrat filibusters. They are deathly afraid of using the budget or debt ceiling as leverage. They do have one powerful tool: confirmations. They can block Obama from confirming any more nominees to the federal bench or Executive Department. It just so happens that there is a big prize sitting on their desks right now, the vacant AG position. Blocking the nomination of Lynch would be perfectly justifiable since she endorsed the Obama amnesty. Ted Cruz has demanded exactly that, pointing out that this is one of the Senate's Constitutionally granted checks on executive overreach. It appears that his arguments are falling on death ears. The Republican Establishment, Mitch McConnell and those other pols who were braying about how they would stand up to Obama during the elections, now suddenly have very cold feet. Block a female african american? The very thought sends shivers up their weak spines. This is how radical extremists get into power. We are seeing the same thing in Europe. The mainstream pols are too timid, too compromised or too venal to listen to their voters. Eventually those voters will find people who will listen to them.
So, free college right after the confirmation? Then minimum wage up to $20? I'm all in. Free school as long as you want. How about a $40 minimum wage? And guaranteed employment for life - nobody can fire you for any reason. I mean, other than expressing any opinions that are contrary to the interest of the State. And why would you want to do that, Comrade? Let's flush this #@**er right down the drain. Then we can start again.
Minimum wage hike causes bookstore to close. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/s...d-minimum-wage-to-15-per-hour/article/2559725 Everything Odumbo keeps proposing has negative consequences. From the free college to the big hike in minimum wage. And his crap about how anyone should have a shot in life ... well Odumbo, they do. All one needs to do is go to school, get decent grades and he/she can get a free ride based on academic achievement rather than just having 2 years of college handed to the almight President thinks that's apparently a 'right' anymore.
The words "independent bookstore" should provide the hint. Independent bookstores are a failed business model. This is not really a business failure caused by hiking the minimum wage. This independent bookstore (like most others) was already on the edge of failure and would have shut down even without the minimum wage hike. Blaming the minimum wage hike is just a convenient excuse for their failure for a business that currently only has a yearly profit of $3000. They might as well blamed the phases of the moon, global warming, Obamacare, or red wolf releases for their failure.
Hey if they've survived against the likes of Amazon they've done okay. And the $3K is after salaries and wages. A profit is a profit. And seeing your wages go up by $28K due to minimum wage hike is the reason it will close. Maybe you buy everything on Amazon but there are people who support independent book sellers, which appear to be a dying breed.
Radio Shack is a corporation. Big difference between a corporate entity and an independent store. It's sad that so many people don't support small businesses. Instead they go buy everything at Wal-Mart and whatever big player is out there. Sounds like you're one of those people. Nice try on trying to divert from the point that the business has remained profitable and will move into red ink only as minimum wage hikes kick in. And there will be a lot more Mom & Pop businesses that will fail due to wages that are often not correlated with what a job entails.
Those mom and pops are already dead, basically, because they're catering to markets with barely anything to spend, and their margins are hair thin. They're the walking dead today only because they can get away with paying their employees next to nothing, and cheating their employees whenever possible. Which makes their market poorer still.
