Reported EPS vs Consensus EPS

Discussion in 'Options' started by Derrenoption, Nov 13, 2016.

  1. Hello,

    I have a question about:

    1. Reported EPS
    2. Consensus EPS

EPS means Earnings Per Share. I wonder what comes first, is it so that analysts first predict the EPS which is: Consensus EPS.

    Question 1
Then at a later date, Reported EPS is released what it really is?

    Question 2
How long time in days is it usually between Consensus EPS and Reported EPS ?

Q1: Yes. First comes 'Consensus EPS'. This is the average of all analysts, for a given reporting period, trying to forecast the company's results.

Q2: Its usually 2-3 years. Sell-side analysts typically model ahead for 2-3+ years. As time goes on, more analysts will compile estimates and more information becomes available, so hopefully the accuracy of consensus improves as the reporting date gets closer. 'Reported EPS' is what the company management tell shareholders via the publication of their official financial public accounts.
